I was under my car today intending on putting the DS back in the car, and to my dismay it seems that the drive shaft is too short for it to fit properly. When the yoke is flush with the rear-end, the front of the drive shaft isn't all the way in. I have two DS, from both of my cars, and both of them are having the same problem. I have paint shopped visual aide to help show what my problem is, if it really is a problem.

When putting the DS into the Tail shaft of the tranny

It slides all the way in.

When the DS is pushed all the way in, to the red line, there is a good size gap between the yoke and rear-end.

When I mate the yoke with the rear-end, the drive shaft is only in to the Blue line.

Is this a problem? Both of my DS are the same length, from 2 different Foxes, and one is Aluminum, but still the same length. So why am I having problems? Should I just bolt it up, and quit bitching?

Sorry for the long post, but I need the :SNSign: gods to help me.

Thanks

That is how it is supposed to be, especially with the car up in the air and the rear end hanging lower. If it fit to the red line there would be no room for movement in and out, which happens as the rear end is raised and lowered due to load when driving. That is why it is called a slip yoke, because it slides in and out slightly under normal driving conditions.

You are fine, bolt it up and you are good to go.

yep your blue line would be with the rear end hanging and with the suspension bottomed out it would be around the blue line..
