Hey Guys

I don't post much but I read the forum alot..

I was filling up my 96 4.6l the other morning on my ride to work started the pump locked it and went in the station to get coffee.. come out and a huge puddle of gas on the ground and the pump was still running.

Long story short a little investigating and the leak is not the tank itself, but seems the gasket between the tank and the filler neck (Where the tank and the filler neck meet) is pretty much completely gone.

Now if I have more then a quarter tank of gas or make any left hand turns the gas pours out onto my passenger side tail pipe which doesnt seem good in any sense and you can smell the gas when at that rear side of the car.

How can I fix this? I tried a few Silicones but nothing seems to be working... trying to do it myself rather then put it in the shop.. I am pretty good mechanically any ideas? Cause I cant really drive it this way at all just sitting in the driveway

i had that in my 91' 5.0L, my little borther helped me drop the tank along with the filler neck it wasnt hard to do it's a gasket that you can get thru Ford. After the tank is dropped with the filler neck you just pull it out and take the old gasket out and insert the new one then you just re-install the tank it is some what of a hassle though but do able at home

if u decide to do so, when your dropping the tank make sure not to break off and lines or wires running to the tank... its a good idea to lower it a little and disconnect everything... the less gas you have in the tank the easier it will be to mount back up, i've done a lot of gas tanks and just figure this is some info that might be usefull if its ur first time
