Have you checked your oil level? Color of the oil?

Piston slap seems to be a problem with some of these engines... it will sound like a diesel untill it starts to warm up.

Is it while it's running and you push the clutch in you hear it, or just on start up? Could be anything from a bad throw out bearing in an already running car, to loose timing chains on cold start up?

much better now that you fixed it!!

if the noise is only when you push the clutch in i would think that it is the throwout bearing.

what does the noise sound like? squealing, squeaking, knocking, ticking? also how many miles on the car?

But what I'm asking is, does it make the noise when the car is already running. Like say when you're sitting at a stop light in neutral and push the clutch in, to get it into get. With the statement above, you make it sound as though the sound is only heard on start up?

Ahhh, then in that case I'd look at your transmissions throw out bearing as being the problem and either tear into it yourself, or have one of your local mechanics take a look at it to confirm.

Anyone else have a different opinion?

lightly push down on clutch pedal,do not release clutch. If you hear noise, it's the throwout bearing. if the noise is only present with the clutch to floor it's more than likely the pilot bearing. ethier way time to pull trans. might want to upgrade clutch while your in there
