ok so this motor came in a car and i was told it was a 5.0 H.O but not out of a mustang, he said it was out of something else but the same motor. So this is the motor 5.0 with efi, none H.O firing pattern. Has the S stamped on the heads, so I guess they are E6 heads, E9I ecu. Did they make a none H.O. efi motor? Would my ecu work with an H.O. motor or dose the tune have to match the cam.

Yes, there was a non-HO efi engine that cam in vehicles like the town car, Thunderbird, cougar, crown Vic, etc. hp varies wildly. They are batch fire car.

in order for your ECU to work(although you didn’t state what you have so assuming a Mustang MAF ECU), you’ll need to change the cam for the firing order to match.

the Pistons on these are dished without eye reliefs, so you’ll want to check PTV clearance

"Help Identify..." threads ABSOLUTELY need pics. The pic included looks like a polar bear in a snow storm.

So I'm starting to feel like the guy who had it before me cobbled it together. A9L ECU on a pre HO motor would that work? It would explain why it doesn't run right.

Looks like a non-HO to me. What’s the firing order on the distributor

It's the older 1 5 4 2 6 3 7 8. And I confirmed it with valve opening. So moving forward the A9L ecu goes to the HO motor right.

What car is the motor in? Cowl area is not Mustang. Also, fuel filter between intake and firewall scares me (it might work but personally I find scary).

I would agree, non-HO. Oil filler tube looks odd as well, almost modified part way up the tube (or just something with the pic).

It doesn’t go with a specific engine, but rather a combo of parts.

in this case, a HO firing order cam and 19# injectors would likely get it running.

from what I can see, those are the gray #14 pound injectors.

I have seen guys get this setup working by rewiring the injectors to the HO firing order. I believe two pins will need to be swapped at the ECU. But, you’ll need 19# injectors

hack I know…but gets you running better
