Alright, one more dumb question before I start hacking wires and yanking parts. The third wire from my regulator that doesn't go to my alternator, should that be ohming to ground? My meter shows it as going to ground, doesn't this mean I have a short somewhere down the line on THIS wire?
ok one more stupid question. where is the selenoid. is it on my starter.
Thanks a ton lot for all the help everybody. I REALLY appreciate the time your spent to share your experise. After doing a temp rewiring job I'm still only getting 12.5 volts. I think I'm going to get the alternator tested to make sure I didn't fry it & if that doesn't do it I'm gonna haveto find a mechanic. Anyways thanks again for all the help. It.s been fun tearing into the electrical.
P.S. jds68stang do you have a paypal accnt?
I took my alt down & made them test it. I'd managed to fry it. I got a new one, & hooked it up. I did have to hook up the old wire to the solenoid as well as the new one, but now I'm charging again. I may eventually clean up my wiring, but it's working again
