Ok yeah this is a really stupid question, as I've dropped my H-pipe a number of times and taken on and off my flows w/ dumps a few times too..

I just got my spintechs with flowtubes attached, and they're dumped after the muffs. My problem is that I've tightened down the bolts on the flanges, and I dunno why but it still sounds like I have a huge exhaust leak.. I can't imagine that this is how these mufflers are really supposed to sound, I'm really actually HOPING that I have an exhaust leak cuz if thats the way these muffs sound, I really dont like them. Looking at the flanges it looks like they settled a little crooked..

So I dunno, am I just a moron, or is there an actual method to tightening these ball and socket flanges so that they are leak-free? I am tempted to put some JB weld around the flanges just to make sure there isnt a leak, cuz I figgure if I really dont like the muffs then I could always break the JB weld to get it off. But everyone says they like these mufflers..

I guess you could get under there and start the car up and see if you have a leak or not, are you sure that you are not leaking around the headers, have you done anythign to them at the same time as the hpipe?

NOpe didnt touch the Headers or H-pipe besides where it connects at the rear.. oh well, I have an extra helper now, gonna go give it a whirl today.

Well.. got 'er a lot better than yesterday. One of the bolts was way too long for some reason so it wasnt tightening the side down, causing a leak. It still sounds like I have a little leak from somewhere but its a lot better sounding.

These spintechs are gonna be something to get used to, they make the cobra sound like a friggen nascar at WOT.

If you think you still have a leak here's what you do. Go get about a 3-4 foot piece of hose (garden hose or whatever). With the car up on stands start it up and let it idle. Slide under with the hose to one ear and take the other end and run it right along all the connections. When you find a leak you'll know, it's very distiguished sound.

Also IIRC, the torque specs for the h-pipe to catback connections is right around 25 ft lbs.

If you can get another person (3), jack it up, have two people block off the tips while you look underneath for a leak. That usually works.
