figured i'd post this here since it seems the build thread doesnt get as much traffic.

just put this car back together, took it for a test drive yesterday, everything seemed fine until about 10-15 minutes in, then it started squealing on me. at first it was just kind of a "squeak" every once in a while, but by the time i got home it was about as it is below.

only does this at speed, starts around 10mph or so, clutch in or out, trans in or out of gear (so anytime the driveshaft is turning).

both u-joints are brand new, though the both are a little greasy (and theyre both the permanently lubed kind). both feel nice and tight pushing on the driveshaft. driveshaft is an frpp aluminum piece. new frpp front yoke. new-to-me tko with an unknown history other than swapping in a modified t5 speedo gear. just put a 31-spline frpp carrier and moser axles in the rear (though the noise seems to come from the front more than the back, kinda hard to tell though). this tko has a boot-type seal that pushes against the yoke and its not fully compressed (my t5 didnt have this type of seal, dont know if its normal or not).

anyway, heres the vid of what its doing while its on stands and in 4th gear (does it in any gear, just gets to a decent speed at idle in 4th).

Sounds like Aliens are landing!!

Never heard something like this before sorry.
What about the differential?? Wrong setting of the clearance between the crown gears??

That will be hard to diagnose until you start eliminating things in the drive line.I would isolate the engine/transmission by removing the drive shaft taking it and the rear out of the equation.
Since the trans is somewhat an unknown,I would try to isolate it as much as possible.

Diagnosing noises and vibrations in the drive line is tough, what sounds like a noise at the rear could be originating from the front and vise versa.

Good luck

I'm going to try running it without the driveshaft in when I get home, i pulled it last night while i had dinner in the oven with that idea in mind. Hopefully i can figure out a way to get the rear spinning at a good speed to eliminate that since I don't want to tear it apart a third time.

Are you sure it is from trans area, what about front accessories?

Definitely not the accessories, only happens with the driveshaft/rear end turning. Just idling or free revving theres no noise. Also dont hear it as loud in front of the car as it is in the middle or back.

Looks like I got it figured out. I pulled the driveshaft and the outside of the yoke was bone dry and had a tad of rubber from the boot on it. ran it without the shaft and no noise. Lubed up the yoke and boot real good and plugged it back in, and no noise. Just went for an about 4 mile drive, and all seems good.
