I'm new here....I've had my 5.0 mustang for like a month or so and It's a piece....I ran a 16.8 1/4 at 82 MPH...I need some major major major major help......I've advanced the timing a touch.....and made a makeshift induction system....any other ideas for cheap mods till I can afford some serious ones?

Your first mods:
1.: Make sure the car is in tip top tune up shape. Some Mobil 1, a fresh set of plugs, wires, cap, and rotor. Your car seems to be about 25 RWHP down from a stock 5.0, if it was in dire need of a tune-up, you may gain this back, this alone could make your car run around 15.20 or so at 87 MPH (Assuming a 3500lb race weight)
2: 4.10 Gear
3: Converter and shift kit. If the car is daily driven you may want to skip the converter. It doesn't make sense to spend a ton of money on a converter that is only a little looser than stock. If your intention is going fast, than get one with at least a 3000 RPM stall.
Those three will get you into the high 14's, possibly faster if your car is in sad shape right now.

I'm assuming so...the place I got it from put in a diff tranny...don't know if its the same or if they african engineered some escort tranny in it or something

but when I ran the 2nd time I put it in the lowest gear it would go in...(I can put it in od and d I believe cuz it hits the console and won't let me shift down any further) and it shifted like 3 or 4 times...so i'm like wtf

I'd do anything for free Bapples

Those are pretty sad times,(not trying to make fun of the car) if the tranny is bad, swap in a t-5, get gears too!
