Guys, i need some help tuning up my car. I have a stock GT with alot of old STOCK ****. I know i have to change my plugs for a nice tune up, but what else do i need to do?

Can you please link me to some good, but cheap spark plugs and wires for a stock 96-98 GT and whatever else is needed.

Already Done: Fuel Filter is new and oil. What else do i need done???

Also, my car is making a sheeching sound from under the hood. Alot of cars have this sound it seems.. its almost like a supercharger whistle, but i think its a worn belt. Which belt is common for making this noise on cars?

Thanks!

Check the www.bullittarchive.com - they have a maintenance section that has some good detailed instructions on the basics (including chging the plugs - this is an excellent article!!! Highly recommended)
Unless I missed something, it's just a single belt. See if you can quiet it down with 'belt dressing', available at any auto parts store. If that helps, it tells you it is the belt and you'll need to replace sooner or later.

How many miles are on the car? You could back flush and refill the antifreeze (add Redline water wetter too,) replace the thermostat, drain and refill the rear end fluid, drain and refill the trans fluid, remove and clean the mass air sensor with qd electrical contact cleaner, run Seafoam, lube any chassis grease fittings if there are any, replace the PCV valve, grease up the doors, seat tracks, hood hinge, trunk hinge, and heck I don't know how many other things. You could go further, replace upper and lower rad hoses.

Beltwise, just replace the belt. If that doesn't cure the squealing, verify that your alternator is in good shape, and verify that the tensioner is operating properly. Replace if necessary.

...I can take it. I think.

The screeching is probably the tensioner or idler pulley. Mine is doing the same thing.

Not sure he'd want to do water wetter - note he's in Chi-Town...and it's winter!

You qualified that statement well, 'cause, bro, there ain't none! (unless someone installed aftermarket LCAs or ???)

The screeching sound is most likely a slipping belt.

You should also replace:

Coolant
T-stat
Tranny fluid (ESPECIALLY if auto)
rear end fluid
PS fluid
Check/ replace brake pads & flush fluid
PCV
IAC
Check A/C for recharge

That's a good start

Well, I wouldn't let that keep me from wanting cooler water temps. Since he likely won't need to change the coolant again for 20kish miles, chances are it'll see at least one hot summer after this winter.. right?

About the grease fittings, I was thinking the pre 99's had a few. Guess I'm drunk.
