Sounds like high resistance on the battery and/or cables. A dirty case on a battery is considered resistance. The gauges shooting to the right sounds like a loose connection maybe?

I just wanted to give an update to those who asked. The dealership diagnosed the problem to a faulty fuel pump, so I will have that fixed Monday.

The reason the gauges were moving all the way to the right were because the battery was pretty much dead from trying to crank the engine.

Thanks for all the input and help I have received.
