Hi Guys:

I bought a brand new speedo cable, and installed.

My speedo itself has a a needle which jumps around at certain speeds, and makes a clicking noise at certain speeds......not all the time.

What the heck is wrong and how do you fix it????

Thanks

Did you lube the cable before installing it?

It's not the cable, it's the speedometer. If you take it apart and run it with a drill you'll see it better. Before I installed my new cable and my old speedo I bench tested it and the speedo did the same thing.

What is the solution.........buy a new speedo, or lube it or hit it with large object?

My speedometer was doing the same thing. I thought it was the cable and replaced it--no difference. It turned out to be the speedometer drive gear in the transmission was worn out. Just something to check if the "drill test" doesn't show a problem with the speedometer.

I am replacing the speedo. The bench test proved it was a bad speedo.

I was thinking of doing it anyway. I have had my 66 for just short of 4 years and I have not driven it yet. A new speeo with zero miles will show exactly what I have driven. When I get it on the road. Should be there by Spring of 2007.
