Help....weird sound coming from engine!

Hey guys,

Just a few days ago I started hearing this weird sound coming from my engine.

I didn't get on it too hard..just a quick pull in 3rd gear.

After that I get this weird "clack-clack-clack-clack-clack" sound coming from the rear of the engine.

At idle it's barely noticeable but at around 2k rpm it gets pretty annoying.

Any higher than 2.5k rpm and you can barely hear it.

The car drives just fine.
It doesn't overheat etc.

What could it be?
I hope it's nothing serious. I just got this car 3 months ago. :-(

could be a loose cat, or some header work

It's clack clack.

But it gets faster as the rpm gets higher.
At 1.5k-2.2k it's the loudest.

After that it kinda fades out.

Right after I start it you can't hear it.
After about 10secs it starts.

So you guys don't think it's anything serious?

hmmm....I dunno...could be an exhaust leak.

It sounds like something is hitting up against something else.

Like a fan continuously hitting a wire. (which at first I thought it was but it was clearly coming from the back of the engine)

I'd check the DS.
Also just slide under and give everything a good looking over.
I've popped pinion gears before and they make a clack clack but they get worse quick.

Flywheel perhaps? I'm just thinking of any rotating mass that would come from the back side of the engine area

So you guys don't think it's anything serious like any internals etc?

I'll check everything in a few days but I'm constantly thinking it over but can't check til my day off.

Yeah...hmm....I think I would probably crawl under it with a flashlight if I had to. Something is wrong with your car...it could be minor, but why take the chance. Don't put it off

Search for "death rattle" and see if maybe that describes your problem.

I dont know if I would say that it isnt anything serious at all. What you are describing kind of sounds like a wrist pin starting to go...

Another thought...could it be a spark plug not tightened to SPEC?

I put in new spark plugs a couple weeks ago and just tightened em down.

I didn't even bother with the torque measurements.

Could that be it?

worth a shot, and cheap to check... pull the plugs one by one and look at em, and tighten back to spec. its free and could be the issue.
