Just got back from the drag strip with 2 v6's, Grand Am GT, S2000, Suzuki 1200cc bike.

I raced with my sub, spare/jack, tools, and rat food. I normally take all that out, but I drive with all that crap in my car so I figured I'd get some times with the junk. I ran 25PSI on the 275/40 Kuhmo 712's.

I can't break into the 13's.
I pulled 255/284 on the dyno a few weeks ago. I'm not the best driver but the 2.18 and 2.19 60' on my Kuhmo's were the best I've ever ran on them. Yes, I could probably drive better. The 1-2 shift still spins and I'm not really sure how to remedy that. I short shifted 1st a little on the 14.16 run since I was starting to spin. I ran 2nd gear to 5800 and 3rd to the end of the track (redline).

Track is at 90 feet, it was 72 F at the start of racing, 64 F when we left at 9. It was a gorgeous day. The first 2 runs, I almost stalled since the track hooked so good out of the hole. Conversely, I had crap 60' since I almost stalled. Those runs were the best I've ever hooked at NE Dragway off the line.

What is my biggest problem? Driving is a factor. Gearing is a factor (redlining 3rd ). Drag radials would be nice. Yes, I said driving is a factor Jackie, damn you.

Need advice! Suspension work is on my list of To Do, but I'll look into that more over the summer when I have a job again.

Oh, the 14.6 run I had a lot of 1-2 shift spin. The 14.9 run I spun like a bastard out of the hole, and even more on the 1-2 shift. Shift into 3rd spun some too. That 14.9 run was against an Azure Blue Mach 1 that ran an 11.9 last Saturday and he ran a 12.4 in that run against me. He posts on Mach1Registry.com

The Suzuki 1200 ran an 11.6 @ 117, but he said he could launch a lot better and go a lot faster. He pulled a 2.0 60' on it, he was taking it easy. He didn't plan on racing that night but we convinced him to The S2000 was the first time at the track, he ran high 14's.

Looks like u have traction problems... get some sticky tires and Lca's to plant the rear down. I didn't have traction the first time I went to the tracks and netted a 2.4 60 foot and 14.8 96mph by the end of the quarter mile ''prior to the headers,''bad oil and spark plugs in 100 degrees weather . I spun bad first and second gear. NO TRACTION at all!!! Well, thats why I have Dr's now

1. Take the crap out of your car.
2. 60's suck
3. Powershift, but that will take some sticky tires.

Last time I went, I took all that crap out, I had major traction problems. 2.3 60' but the prep sucked, and it was a high of 55. When track opened. Tonite was -beautiful- and awesome weather but stupid Kuhmo's are ass. But even then, I can't trap higher than 100...

bump for the morning folk.

Oh, last time we went, on a Friday, I was told the weighing machine is open on Wednesdays. So we went today and I wanted to get weighed. They go "Oh, it's rarely open. And not on Wednesdays."
Make up your mind.

I do have LCA's, rest stock suspension. ~45 some passes at the track. 7th run (3rd trip) was a 13.70. I could've let the engine cool down a little more, but I wanted to run while it was warmer out since traction was better. I do want tires but I worry about breaking my rear end before I have money to build it up.

Is this the same track you hit your 13.7 on or was that a different track?
Your 60ft is ehhh ok compared to most, Ive seen a lot worse on here lol. Still with 2.1's you should still be able to hit very low 14's and high 13's pretty easy.
What rpm are you shifting at? You could try to short shift first, then power shift 2nd-3rd and 3rd-4th if your able to hit 4th which you should be. Im still waiting to get mine out to the track Every weekend thats nice I have to work, and every weekend Im off it freaking rains

Dude, check out my mods and know I can duplicate your times with less mods. I am not saying by any means my car is a phenom but with the mods you have, you should be WELL into the 13s. Sticky tires, learn to drive right and you should be fine. I myself should be in the 13s with the 410s but you know how that goes. keep trying

Why don't you just stop at a weigh station on the side of the road?I have done it a few times, and they are usually glad to help out.You are going AROUND the water, right?Drop your 60s and you should be in the 13s no problem.Try launching at a higher rpm if you're bogging out of the hole, maybe it will help.Good luck getting it lined out.

You have 4.10's, he doesn't. He does have more power, but he has to send it through a 3.27.

Plus other factors like track prep, weather conditions, driving, etc....make it a bitch to accurately compare runs.

Yep, same track. I hit 13.70 on April 30th, last year. Stock 16" rims with 225/55/16 @ 25 PSI, C&L MAF, and shifter. The first 4 runs hooked pretty good out of the hole, very little spin in 1st. 1-2 shift always had spin, power shifting (like Gino suggested) would help so I guess I'll have to try that next time. I short shifted first around 5k on my 4th run (2nd fastest run), ran 2nd to 5800 and 3rd through the traps. With stock gearing, shifting into 4th slows me down a lot. I tried it the last time I went (a month ago), ran like a 14.6...

I know, the drag strip needs to build a rain shelter or something, we had planned to go 2 weeks ago but it rained or something. It's so hard to coordinate a schedule with like 7 people, and then when we finally all can go, it rains or something.

I know I should be well into the 13s which is why I'm unhappy... The last 2 times to the track I've only hit 14.1

New England Dragway in New Hampshire.

Looks like I'm going to have to go there, I've only tried to get weighed twice at the track. I was told by the track it would be free, whereas the ones on the highway charge you. But atleast they're open.

Yep, around the water. Then a quick spin for a second or two to clean off all the gravel and junk. Just for some reason since I got all my mods done, I'm lower than before. With just MAF and cat back (with Kuhmo's and Cobra rims) ran 14.2 last summer in 90 degree, high humidity. The Cobra rims really slowed me down, 66 lbs more rotating mass than my stock 16" rims. But now catted x, pulleys, upper intake, throttle body, LCA's, I'm hitting 14.1 in this great weather... With a better 60' too!!!

Sounds like it. I know my brother hates his Kuhmos, so I convinced him to get som Nitto DRs and he said it's like night and day - and that's just on the street. They really hook when you heat them up. Even though I have 4.10s, my biggest problem was that I couldn't come close to powershifting the 1-2 or 2-3 with stock goodyears. The DRs fixed that for me, but my 60's are not much better. But that's my fault, because I'm not heating the tires up enough (2nd gear burnout - haven't tried that yet.) So what I'm saying, is I believe I picked up .2-.3 seconds just from not slipping on the 1-2 and 2-3 when powershifting with the sticky Nittos DRs.
Nitto DRs seem like a nice compromise between summer tires and ET Streets or slicks. I like them.

Probably should also just get a little better slipping the clutch out. I personally found it more difficult to launch with 3.27s than with 4.10s. With the 4.10s, I can just play with the gas pedal instead of monsterously slipping the clutch like I had to do with 3.27s in order to net a 2.0X 60'. I barely slipped the clutch with the 4.10s now, and I regularly get 2.13-2.15s (stock goodyears) or 2.08-2.13s (DRs) - and there's a lot more to shave off once I figure these DRs out!

Above all, like a few people already said, it's very difficult to compare track times when they are performed on different nights. Most of the time, the track I frequent just plain sucks as far as hooking up, but every once in a while it's pretty good. Then the other track I've hit (National Trails) hooks WAY better than the other track I mentioned - heck, I ran a few 14.1s pretty much bone stock at Trails but couldn't net more than a 14.4 at Marion (the sucky track!)

Sticky tires ands a little luck will get you a nice 13.5-13.6 - I see it in your future! Good luck!
