Help with Long Tube Header Install

Is there a better way than manufacture suggests? I bought a pair of JBA's and O/R H pipe for my 07 GT 5 speed. I am hearing that some people with the 99-04s have had better success dropping k member. Has anyone done this rather than loosening motor mounts and disconnecting steering shaft, rack, starter and so on, on our cars? Just seems like there has got to be a more efficient way. Anybody do this install and learn there is a better way? I would appreciate some insight on this if you have any. THanks Stangers

mine is an 03,,i found the top bolts are harder than the bottom..on mine i did it in driveway, i used old tires on rims as jack stands,sounds funny but you will be up and down so much and they come in as a step also ,i removed starter,oil filter,motor mounts, heater hoses, dip stick, loosened steering shaft and move to side,pulled hydro boost and set to side,,held motor up with cherry picker,takes about 3hrs solo.

caution on the 03, long tubes stick back further and engine has to be lowered alittle they hit floor pan.

when doing trans work right side header has to be removed to pull trans.

i like the sound and dont regret using them,,,mine are bbk

Dude that sounds like a nightmare install!

Three hours for you really sounds like 6 hours of frustration for me.

i read alot of them take 12-15 hrs for install

All headers are a bit different, but I have installed the JBA's on mine. You can do it in a few hours. You'll have to unbolt the steering rack and shift it I believe on the driver's side. The right header is a little worse and I may have had to jack that side of the engine up a bit. It's been a while. I used the supplied bolts from JBA because with the stock studs it made the install more difficult. If you remove the studs you'll have extra clearance. Every header bolt can be wrenched on except one bolt on the passenger side near the middle. I had to use a swivel and a long extension.

After you bolt them up get the car completely warmed up and then cooled down and go over all the bolts again.

Ok so it sounds like nobody has dropped K member to install these headers so I guess i will be the test dummy on this one. Ill get back with everyone later and let you know if its is any quicker and less frustrating.

i wouldn't bother with dropping the k member, I followed the instructions to the t except for one spot and the install wasn't hard at all, just a lot of work. on the passenger side I had to remove the motor mount that bolted to the block to get the stock manifold off and put the new one on, I prolly could a done it without removing it but it was easier for me to just take it off. took me a day

I just installed Mac L/T headers and the O/R Prochamber this weekend. The install was easier than it would seem. Start to finish was 3 hours. . . . I have a hoist though. Motor mount and starter removal is a breeze. Getting the stock manifolds and studs out is the biggest pain. Once you lift the motor up about 4 inches, the headers slip right in.
