ok, my 00' laser red gt has sum light scratches on the paint (appear to be key scratches). damned previous owner!! aside from this the car has significant swirls that become more visible in the light. well the point is that my dad got me sum meguiars gold wax. id like to know if this wax will help my car all that much in terms of the swirls and scratches. my dad tells me to do it by hand and that it should help out a lot. ive never waxed jack so im pretty lost. i know rjstaaf's red gt is badass and he knows his wax. so if anyone can give me a hand id appreciate it.

For the scratches I would try Meguiars ScratchX. It is designed for spot work like that. Depending on how bad the swirls are Meguiars Gold Class wax does have cleaners in it but, I can't tell you if it will remove them without seeing how bad they are. If the swirls are too much for Gold Class you might look at the Meguiars "Deep Crystal" system. Step 1 of the system is the Deep Crystal Paint Cleaner and is for removing swirls. These products should all be available at your local auto parts store.

If you have access to the Meguiars Professional line of products you could also try Meguiars #9 swirl mark remover for the swirls.

Just keep in mind that the basis for any show car finish is in the prep work, not the products. Take your time at the prep stage and it will pay off when you apply the wax. Make sure you read and follow the directions on the products you are using and if you have questions please don't hesitate to post them here.

Gold Class is a good wax and should look awesome on your laser red paint.

wash your car with a quality soap then dry. if you got rough spots, water mark stains, etc. use a clay bar then wash again. once the paint feels clean and smooth apply the Meguiars #9 swirl remover. after the swirls are gone you have to apply a quality wax. Meguiars Gold Class, #26, NXT, are all good quality waxes. Ive used all three and in my opinion, the NXT was the easiest to use and yielded the best results. as far as frequency, that is up to you. I wax my 4 runner once a month cause i dont have a stang yet, but i am looking for 1.

Prep is all the steps you do before you apply the wax like washing, claying and polishing. When most people refer to prep work though they mean using an abrassive or chemical cleaner on the paint to remove swirls, oxidation or other defects. In this case you would prep with the Deep Crystal Paint Cleaner or #9 swirl mark remover. It doesn't have to be done every time, just when you notice problems that need to be corrected like swirls.

I would avoid using dish soap, it is too harsh. It is very hard on the plastic trim on your car. My personal favorites are Meguiars Gold Class car wash, Zymol Car Wash, Meguiars NXT Car Wash and lastly Meguiars #62 professional car wash.
