Attached is a picture of a rust hole I have on the bottom of my door. Have on both sides. I know the best way is probably to cur it out and weld in new piece but don't have access or have not done any welding.

I thought I could grind down and then put rust bullet of or por-15 on it and then fill in with por-15 putty - then paint on iside of door and out. Would this hold up?

Thanks

I wouldnt just put filler in it, you will develop cracks and other problems; plus filler diminishes the value of the car. Take it to a shop or find a friend to help you out. Where are you located? Maybe someone on the forum can help.

I was afraid I'd hear that I'm located in Valpo Indiana. Any body work help would be great. My plan is to do full body restore in next couple of years. Doors and qtrs have a lot filler in them - plan on putting new skins & qtrs. Just getting all other stuff out of way - brakes, suspension, etc. Thougt I might be able to slow down until ready to take that on.

If it is just a temporary fix untill you restore it then you may want to consider cutting the rust out, making a small panel with a flanged edge, and then use panel adhesive to attatch it. If you don't have a flanger and air hammer, you can buy flanging vise grips.

If you are going to re do the doors later anyways, the filler would be alright but if you are trying to fix it now so all you have to do is the skins later, weld in some new sheet metal. I would help but im in west michigan (a little to far away).
I had to do something like this on the front of my door but it was the entire front corner. Someone just filled some huge holes with lead so I cut all that out and welded in some new steel. After that I had a ton of grinding and shaping but it looks good now.

For a temp fix - use POR15 or the equivalent right away and putty/filler (if you want). The POR15 will stop the rust and seal it, while the putty will fill it (I don't think it will be that bad to have an extra drain hole down there, as long as you seal the bottom with POR15 to prevent further rusting - temp only of course).

Also - you probably already know this, but clean the inside of the door out so it can drain like it's suppose to and remove any flaking rust within the door before painting.

As has been said, as long as you do both sides it'll be fine. Here's my rear window channel repair:
