I am thinking rear end, brakes, strength of suspension (anti-roll bars, etc) are also different. I dont know a lot about 4 bangers though.

I considered this for about five miniutes at one time so I did do some research a while ago. Here is what I remember. I do have a 4cyl as well.
The motor mount locations will be the same but you will need different mounts for the big block. They are available, just not sure where. Best bet would be to ask Google. The engine bays are the same size. I believe there are kits to do the swap available, but you will have to ask Google. Holcomb Motorsports comes to mind, but I could be confused (it happens alot and quite easily)
The rear on a 4banger is weaker, an 8in I think. The trans has higher multiplication gearing and can't handle the same amount of power. Some people have run the 4 cyl in built 302s for long periods of time, but the big block is a different ball game.
I believe hood clearance will be a serious issue as well.

your better off with a four banger, because anything stronger that came stock on the 302 cars, still wont be enough for a bb, so you'd need to replace that crap anyways.

Interesting point FARVA!!! Love the avitar.

However the 302 parts will resale for more, when you go to sell off the junk you don't need. Unless you are a pack rat like myself, and just fill the garage with old parts that you will never use.

i' not sure about the car question but.........is it true that you can just carry a paint bucket around all day and act bussy when you work for the union? instead of have to do any real work?

Have you heard of those new union shovels? That stand up all by themselves?

Actually the I4 cars came with a 7.5" rear. The V8 cars 8.8" can actually be built to handle double or triple the stock power output, so you wouldn't have to pawn it off and upgrade to a 9". There are other differences as well, but nothing that can't be overcome. The four bangers had the crappy interior, so if you were getting racing seats anyway it isn't a big deal- and the 85mph speedo cluster sucks. Most years they also had different spindles, making it impossible to bolt V8 model struts in up front. Obviously the computer wouldn't be up to the task, but it's arguable that the EECIV would be able to run a 460 without a piggyback anyway. Other than all that, nothing comes to mind that hasn't been mentioned yet. Very feasible swap, if not a practical one. Good luck.
