When i unplug my iac, the idle does not change whatsoever. its a new iac because my old one did the same thing so i bought a new one. i have no codes besides my egr codes but that is becasue i have a tfs track heat upper and lower, among other things. its an 88 gt with the mass air conversion. also it idles fine and the idle goes up when i put the a/c on. so it runs perfectly normal. any ideas would be great.

thanks

The idle adjustment screw is set to hold the throttle blade open so it will idle without the help of the IAC.
I did this for a while when my IAC was on the fritz, before I replaced it.
If there is no problem, then don't change a thing.
Otherwise, you may want to reset your idle.
BTW what is the problem?

idle adjustment

besides just turning my idle screw while the iac is unplugged, what is the procedure for doing this. does the car need to be on or off? do i need to disconnect my battery for any of this?

thanks

I don't remember the exact right way to do it. I think a search might help if you want to know the true procedure.
What I did was, with the car running, unplug my IAC, then set my idle, with the set screw, just below where I wanted it. Around 750-850rpms. Then I set the tps value to about .95-.98. When done, shut the car off and unplug the battery to reset the computer. Leave it unplugged for at least 10 minutes.
Reconnect everything and start the car back up. The idle might have to be learned again. Check your tps value again, just to be sure. And drive it around, so the computer can learn.
Oh, before you set the idle, have the car completely warmed up. Do the adjustment after the car has been driven around for a while.
This is what I do, I'm not sure if it is the standard excepted way, but each person has a different way for doing almost anything. Good luck.

proxses, that sounds good. after unplugging the battery, some like to turn the headlight switch on, as it will quickly discharge any residual battery juice keeping the puter memory alive.
good luck, but im thinking if it ain broke, dont fix it.
