At the body shop where I work, they use the dupont system. They used to use the sikkens system, which came out looking almost as good.
You need to sand the entire car down to 400 grit. After you sand a panel, go over it inch by inch, looking for divots/impressions. Sand more if necessary. I would invest in a DA and a sanding block. The DA will save so much time.
Apply patch material (i.e. bondo) only on very small marks. I would use a good two part patch material. I can't remember the name of the stuff they use at my shop. Anything larger than a dime you should to try to pull or hammer out. You don't have to, but I would really recommend it for longevity.
