just wondering what kits and where from did you guys purchase your HID kits and which temperature you all went with. I bought a kit for my lexus GS about 3 years ago and had to take it out about 2 weeks ago because they both burnt out but thats with keeping them on day or night every time i drove the car and i drove it a wholeeeee lot. so for 3 years it was pretty good but they did cost me about 200 bucks.

I got mine from vvme.com and my brother got his from hidguy.net. Both are good kits and work well. I've had mine for about 2-3 years, I think. No complaints. I went with 8000K and like it. Here is a comparison chart. HID Color Temperatures Comparsion : VVME.COM, Car Parts, HID KIT, Tattoo Kit, Ballast, Bulbs
Here are some pics.

Good luck. Let us know how it goes.

Are these actually street legal? Also how does it effect oncoming traffic? I have read that using the HID bulbs without the proper HID designed headlights can virtually blind oncoming traffic.

I would love to get HIDs for my car and truck, but have held off because of it.

You should really have projector-style headlights rather than reflectors to use HIDs to prevent the light going everywhere and blinding other drivers. Here's an image of a VW GTI with projectors. Notice how defined the cutoff is:

Compare this to the reflector pattern seen above. Only you can judge if this would be acceptable. Of course, if you blind police coming other way, they may pull a U-turn and pull you over...

As for temperature, IMHO stay below 6000K. Anything above that is getting too blue/purple and doesn't give good lighting. Ideal is ~4300K though 5000K will give a nice white light. I've got 6000K in my GTI and while they're good, if I had to do it again I'd go 5000K or lower.

I would love to see police start pulling people over for overly bright headlights. The situation is ridiculous and out of control.

my friend has 12k on his headlights and fogs on his 03 cobra and these cars are so low that it really does not effect other drivers, its just what i think though. if it was a truck it be a different story though that would be blinding for sure

EDIT: im liking the VVME website their prices are very good and they have an actual site you can contact not like some ebay sellers theyre like ghosts from China you have no idea where they are or how to contact them.

12K? He may as well drive without any lights at all. I guess he loves purple....

ANY HID in a reflector housing will glare, it's just how much. A 99-04' housing will glare, no matter how "low" you try to aim them. The simple fact is that the reflector was not made for a bulb of that type. Don't believe us, try this: Drive down a dark street lined with trees and look up. Notice how much of the trees above the street are lit up? Now, imagine that coming from the other direction shining in your eyes. That's glare, plain and simple.

i personally would not go over the 8000k mark i think those would be perfect because they arent blue and they provide enough light without being blinding

Well HIDs have sharp cutoffs and only factory installs are anywhere close to acceptable for other drivers. And even with factory ones on hilly roads and such its ****ing annoying as hell.

Your funny. I'm not showing them off. The OP asked what kits, temp and where others have ordered their HID kits and that was what I answered. The pics were for a better look at the color of my particular bulb temperature.
As to the comments of light dispersion, that's what the side pic was taken for. The lights are on high beams and like any halogen light in a reflector housing, it will spread out light like that. The difference being that the halogen is not as bright as the HID. I live in a very populated area and have never had to use my high beams and in the 2-3 years I have had them, I have never been flashed once. When I initially installed them, I sat in my gf's acura rsx, facing my car, and they were not blinding or even too bright, IMHO. High beams are a different story. In a perfect world there would be a projector light for the mustang that doesn't look like s**t, but I'm not aware of any at the moment and I don't have time or money for any custom retrofit. So I feel as long as your smart about it and don't drive around with your high beams on, you won't blind others. With that said, I pass people all the time who blind me with their HID's. I hate that too but I'm not one of them.

I believe in many states it is illegal to put in HID's into cars that don't have the option from the factory.

You could however buy a SVT focus w/o them and then using OEM or replica parts in stall them later.

That being said, I have never heard of anyone getting fined for them.

I found one of my low beams. Yes there is some glare but the bright light is down where it should be. Now that I look at it, I did have my flash on so that might make the glare a little worse in this pic. I'll try to take some road pics tonight and get them up. Again, I'm not defending every Ahole out there blinding people with there HID's. I'm just saying the ones I have aren't bad and don't blind anyone.
