Hey guys what am I gonna need when I get a high speed torque converter and gears in a new GT..Is a tuner the only thing I need to correct the shifting points? or do I need a chip also? Everything is computer controlled so a converter is gonna throw everything out of wack..

wheres your new GT?
I am purchasing one this year,,and am finding out now,too get a heads up..I am definitly getting an auto-matic..I bought my 93LX 2 years ago and it had 18,000 miles on it..It was a real dog..(aod and 100% stock) with the addition of a Precision Industries 2800 stall speed converter it was transformed into a totally different car..Gave me 7 tenths in the 1/4 :nice: So as soon as I get my new one Im putting a converter and 430 gears in..Just doing my homework bro!!

the SCT XCAL2 can adjust your shift points to very firm. do a search-there is a thread with pics and diagrams around here. the XCAL 2 will also correct your speedo for the new gears. it is not like the older models where you just change the speedo gear, it is electric. i have not heard of anyone running a converter in the new stangs yet. i assume by high speed that you are talking about a higher rpm stall? gears and a tune are the best bang for the buck as far as 1/4 mile performance. 4.30s might be a little steep for the auto, dependinig on what your goal is for it. you are definately going to need some suspension mods to control the wheel hop you will be getting with your combo.

Me either, thats why Im asking (high speed stall) Im gonna call Pre cision Industries and see how there coming along with one..They are IMO the best converter for a Mustang..I know the auto's are "not" that much slower then the manuals..A converter should put an auto far beyond a manual..Im just hoping they make one. These new motors and trannies are pretty complex.Computer wise!!

with just a tune, the auto will be faster. you can adjust the shift points so it is almost instantaneous. the number one mod to do is a tune. it will remove the throttle lag and free up near 20-25 hp, more with a CAI. the main problem with the auto now is lockup in 4th gear with a power adder.

thats a good thing.I test drove one and it had quite a bit of throttle lag..25HP,,not bad..I read a good cai is worth 15-20 HP on these cars..
Nahhhh,430's will be perfect!! Especially with 5 gears!

you have to check out the gearing in the trans. stock the autos come with 3.31 rear gears and the manual comes with 3.55 and they are very close in performance. ask a few people what they run in their auto and i can almost guarantee its 4.10s. 4.30 is better for a manual, although many people dont want to go that (numerically) high. i think it is perfect for a manual as we have taller tires than the previous stangs.

yeah, things are the opposite of Foxes. The 5spd's need a lower gear, because they wind out faster.
The rule of thumb is 355's with a 5spd
and 373's are best with the aod..
