Hi guys, I'm restoring the stang and I'm looking to fix my door hinges. The problem is that they do sag a little like when you open em and pull they sound like they come off their resting spot like come down a little, also they don't stay open. My question is should i buy the repair kit for them or do these problems suggest that I buy new hinges all together?

I was having the same problem with my 68. I first rebuilt the hinges and then had it that way for the past year or so. It didn't fix the problem that they don't stay in the same spot when I opened the door. Earlier today I ordered new lower hinges to correct this problem. My car is heading to the paint shop so I wanted to get the new hinges painted with the car. I think I read one time that the aftermarket hinges were not quite as good as originals but my original was pretty much shot. To sum it up, I would rebild the top and replace the bottom.

On our '65 we had used the repro hindges and the lower ones lasted 4 years or so. The main problem is that on the roller bushing, which is supposed to turn when the door is opened because they are staked in to tight. The result is hole gets elongiated and therefore doesn't work like they should. EVERY repro lower door hindge I looked at, when we wanted to replace them recently, had this problem. I built a '66 about 15 years ago and you could get the OEM units and they are still good today. for our '65 I located a set of NOS, VERY expensive, but they will last for years.

Thanks for the input guys, Yesterday I went to NPD here in California and asked them, it was before I was able to come back home to read the posts, but they suggested starting off with one hinge repair kit, so I bought it and I'm gonna go pay a visit to the body shop that is painting my car right now, i'll take some pics of the old hinges.

Rebild em with a kit from Mustang steve,they will be right and greasable!!

I rebuilt my original '68's and not only was it a breeze, but it makes the door shut nicely. Be careful though, it's entirely possible to put them back together backwards!

I just rebuilt mine, it wasn't too bad. I have the early '67 style (65-66 style) I used some heat to tap out the rusty pins, after bending 2 punches!
