Ok, so last night I ran up to the grocery store to pick up a few supplies, left there to go drop off a package at the post office box. On my way this kid in a relatively new nissan 350z hardtop convertible comes racing out of a gas station parking lot and is trying to get me to race him. Being that the road we're on was winding and a lot of curves, and the fact that I'm not stupid enough to street race as I don't want my car impounded or wrecked, I ignore the guy. He continues to slow down to get behind me and then floor it by me and slow down again. So finally I threw him the finger and he proceeds to floor it again to pass me up. Well out of no where he loses control of his car and starts spinning, slams into my drivers side and sent my car spinning down the road. His car stopped about 50 ft in front of mine so I'm sitting there a little dazed and go to get out of my car to see if he's alright, and he starts driving off!! Ironically though, since he had a flat tire and tried to take off too quick, he lost control again, spun his car over a curb and center island with landscape and all that crap into oncoming traffic, and started to drive off against oncoming traffic!!! I was like holy crap is this really happening to me?! So I fire up my car and call the cops and chase the guy down long enough to get his plate number to give to the dispatcher and then I pulled over and waited for the cops to show up. Luckily I had a witness that followed the guy home only going 20 mph riding on his rims. Cops called me later to tell me they found the car but no driver, but that they were impounding the car. Out of all that all I ended up doing was pulling a groin muscle real bad, I gotta walk with crutches for a few days, but I'm happy I'm ok and my car is repairable so I guess I got lucky. I'll post pics in a few minutes.

I'm glad you weren't seriously hurt, and I'm glad you didn't decide to take on this Tokyo Drift wannabe -- if you had raced him, and all this **** went down, you would have been charged with any injuries he caused -- smart move on your part.

I hope the kid's insurance covers you, and you don't end up having to come out-of-pocket to repair your car.

as far as your rear end question, its hard to tell without pics of the rear end area. it sould be tons of different things.....control arms, panhard bar, sway bar, etc. could also have been the rim falling apart. i would NOT drive it at all, until it is at least looked at by a VERY GOOD SHOP. most estimators will tell you that they will have to look at it when it gets in and they tear it down. some will look at it carefully and at least write up what they can see, but most are too lazy to do this.

sorry for your loss.

Update

Well, they have yet to find the driver, and it was a little late in the day when I got around to taking care of everything I needed to today, so I didn't have a chance to go pick up my copy of the police report. My state farm agent is being super cool about the whole thing, she filed my claim, got me a rental and arranged for my car to be towed to the collision center in the morning. i left the garage door open today and had visits from several neighbors being curious as to what happened, they all know i baby the car because I clean it religiously. Anyways...it is getting repaired at Ford so I'm glad about that, and I got a brand new Dodge Magnum (v6) for my rental and I gotta say dodge really has stepped it up cuz this thing is nice. I'm still pretty sore, but i don't have to go back to work til thursday so I get to rest Anyways, I'll keep ya'll up to date as to what happens tomorrow....hopefully they will have at least found the driver or owner.

Sorry your car got whacked, and glad your O.K., there are so MANY idiots on the road now, it's just Not funny for any of us . You did the right thing by ignoring him even if you got smacked in the end. Good for you for keeping your cool, HE'S the one who'll pay in the end.
