Hmm... with larger valve covers..Am I going to need a spacer for the TF intake?

Hi guys. I just did a little checking and realized that my oem VC's only have a coupla millimeters space between the bottom of the egr plate (blocked off) and the valve covers..If I get a larger valve cover, I think I am going to need a spacer for the intake manifold..does anyone know off-hand? If so what size should I get so as not to need a hood scoop as well..3/8"?

I bought 4 intake gaskets (kit). I think I am going to RTV 3 or 4 of them together and will prob do the trick. Can anyone confirm? Thx.

HOPE & THINK :D

I hope that idea works for you

I think that idea is gonna cause oil leaks for you

Good Luck which ever way you go!

DO NOT do that! That will cause vacuum leaks like nobody's business (if it's the uppers you're talking about.

If you're running taller VC's (like I think you are), with a 3/8" spacer, you will still need to grind down the EGR casting at the bottom. But everything else will clear.

You're gonna need the 3/8 spacer. And the EGR is a PITA, if I were you I would ditch it especially while you can get at the heads easier while you are back there anyway!

Then TwEEC that sucker away. Enter a "2" to deny the EGR access to its tables under the scalars section.

3/8" TFS spacer for me. Fox V/C's to clear TFS roller rockers on TFS heads with the Street Heat intake. Had to grind the EGR valve itself nearly halfway through the bottom bolt hole. Had to make my own EGR tube (Copper tubing at Home Depot)
HAVE to run EGR to pass SMOG in California (Which I just did...WHOHOO!)
EASY to do all of this, really.
If you're supecharged, the Fox V/C's will put the oil fill tube really close to the discharge tube. enough that you can't get the cap on. Had to grind the "ears" off to get it to turn.....
Oh, and the letters "TRICK FLOW" on the intake JUST touch the heat liner on the underside of the hood.....
Makes a little shiney spot ont the "FLOW"....

I actually wouldn't recommend deleting the EGR. I wish I still had mine. Really, it's a win-win situation. It improves fuel economy, and is ignored at WOT so it doesn't hurt performance at all. The ONLY reason to delete it is if you don't like the looks of it, or it's broken already IMHO. One of these days I might try and find another EGR tube and hook it back up.

But if you do delete it, you know to tune it out of course.

I have the Edel RPM with BBK VCs. I installed a 3/8" spacer and the egr clears the VCs with no problem. Also, I purchase the edelbrock adapter for the egr - fits perfect. Did not have to extend, rework or anything of the sort for the egr tube. Perfect fit. Although it may be cheaper to rig some copper tube to make fit. :D

Thanks everyone. I heard of using sylicone hosing for the egr. Cman, there is one benefit in my mind..actually two. No more studder at 2k rpm and below..smooth transition of RPM's and the intake doesn't gunk up.

Well I don't know about the studder thing. I never had a problem with that with my EGR. I've never even heard of it.

And I would bet that gunk in the intake is from your PCV screen not doing it's job well enough, not the EGR. Put an oil seperator on there, and see how much cleaner the intake starts to look (not to mention the insane amount of oil it catches). :nice:

Well, I can't say I have any gunk in my intake as it only has 1000 miles on it. :jester: But I am just repeating what I have heard. I think I had an oil separator on my old motor ...and my new one me thinks. My old engine had about a 1.2 inch thick of oil gunk on it all over the insides! Yucky!

lol, that intake is brand new then! That's pretty nast about your old engine.

Go ahead and try it if you want, but I can tell you that I tried high temp hoses (highest temp available at the local speed shop) with quality clamps and I still melted em. That exhaust is HOT - and under pressure.

I'm gonna try the Home Depot - home made EGR pipe this mod season (winter).

Hey Brad, are those caps I sent you working okay? If you get the home made EGR thing figured out, let me know how you did it! I want to hook mine up so bad..... :(
Those caps fit like a glove. No issue, and thx again. I haven't done a programmer yet, so no EGR delete running in the computer's software, and also np from that.

I'll be doing the EGR pipe this winter, snow is already on the ground - so the Mustang is garage bound. But work has me pretty booked, so it will probably be a while before I get to that.
