HOLLEY SUCKS!!!!!!!
It's called a blown power valve.

Like the good Dr.(Elusive) says, EDELBROCK is the choice. If you want to save a couple bucks, get a CARTER, which is basically the same. Ten years ago my best friend and I put a Carter 750 on his SB Chevy, whoooeee what a difference!

And for review:

HOLLEY SUCKS!!!!!!!

As for Barry Grant, never used one, don't know anyone who has, so no comment on the Demons.

my $60 edelbrock worked the best so far for cheap carbs.

I tried a spare 650 road demon, didn't run any worse but I didnt notice a gain.

Never had an Edelbrock or Carter run as well as a well tuned Holley! Never blown a power valve (that doesn't happen in any of the Holleys sold for the last 6+ years). Never even considered spending the bucks on a Barry Grant carb.

EFI is my choice if I could find/afford the setups I desire.

I'm probably wrong about how long Holley's been selling them with power valve protection... I bought my first brand new Holley in '94 and it had power valve protection already built in. So I guess it's been at least 10 years. I was always told about blowing out power valves, but every Holley I've had either came with power valve protection or had already had it installed.

Otherwise the only significant problem I've had is with needle valve sticking. I eventually figured out that when you buy a Holley new or used, throw out the needle and seat that's in it and buy a new GOOD high flow needle and seat plus some teflon gaskets.
