The Evo costs more but also offers more than just performance. If were talking all out 100% performance, then yes buying ANY new car is retarded, when there are hacked up hulks in junkyards just waiting to be turned into 1/4 mile terrors. This guy built this car to serve more than one purpose and even though it costs money, it does what it does well...

I agree, being that I have 2 nhra class cars I think I know what it takes to maintain cars of that performance level.

As for the evo the only real weak points it has is the stock clutch, I'll say a grand there installed and the stock transfer case, put in a built one from buschar around 3500, plus the 5k for the gt35rl, used exede 500 thats $10,000 for those that cant add. About what it takes to upgrade a fox to handle the same amount of power. Btw the 4g63 is the same motor in the dsm's so its been around a while, as far as cheep parts go.

The thing is so many people dont know much about building or running fast cars. The Mustang world ESPECIALLY the online world is full of kids with cars they mod and drive on the street, not racers that know what it takes to run times, and what is involved. With that, you have to take their opinion on a fast car with a grain of salt. Someone who doesnt know about a subject cant really have an eductaed opinion about it can they?

It can get expensive, remember that guy with the camaro/trans-am/firebird (can't remember which) that was on Dateline and claimed he had 80,000 in his car ? Then some guys wanted to race and he wouldn't even come out...I was trying to find the video.

I know last year I picked up a motor for $29,750. That was a complete motor from carb to converter. All the dry sump stuff and it goes 7.50's@178 on motor in a 2611bs car. We built the car and I can tell you that it's no cheap.

I was going to back half my Falcon and put a 528ci BBF in it. I was going to try and go 9.20's in a 3200lb car. But it was like somewhere around $21,000 that with me doing all the labor. Chassis work. Roll cage, Building the motor. I have to rethink things and see if I want to spend that much money for bracket racing. I mean I go 11.50's now. I wanted to go fast but looking at the price 11.50's looks good.LOL I'm not buildimg this car to please anyone else expect me. But that's a lot of money. The new plan is stay with the FE motor. I'm doing a 427ci now. That way I don't have to cut up my car and it will be faster. Also cheaper.

I am sorry, "upkeep" was the incorrect word to use. I was refering to upgrading or fixing things that break along the way.

So your looking at that cost plus installation for these parts plus the cost of the car and it will run mid 10s for what 1 or 2 passes, you act as though nothing else will be needed. I guess the Body will need no Bracing, and I guess the Stock Transmission, Stock Bottom End, Stock Clutch, Stock Half Shafts, Stock CV Joints, ect. are all just going to hold up fine to this kind of power. It costs a ton of money to go fast and tons more to maintain a Fast Car, I think some Guys dont realize that sometimes. Look at the upkeep for a 12 Second Mustang, its not cheap!

also to add the dyno time and tuning, it takes a lot with those cars

Hmm, havent had to do that either, but Im just one of the lucky ones (stock T5, stock 140K rear end, no tq box reinforcements etc...)

Its doing alright, and I give it hell, but then again Im more surprised with the rear end. Every clutch dump it gets abused badly but still comes back for more...

Thanks, Ill continue to abuse it, then upgrade!

Yeah I am surprised you are not down to the 1 wheel peel or have not snapped an Axle either, Stay Safe! In the mid 1980's I used to run a 73 VW Bug on the 1/8 Mile, I used to hit in the 7.8 Second Ballpark in the low 80 MPH Range, I built a 2110 cc for it and used a Transmission from a VW Bus. I never got to run it on a 1/4 Mile Track, but I was pretty pleased with how it performed.

Redid the Tloc years ago and packed it tight. Its loosening up, but still hooks when need be. Axles I always bring with me, more as a good luck charm, but have 5 lug 28s going in this winter.

I have always liked the ld beetles running fast numbers. Definately impressive!

I ran my Bug on the Strip/Street for about 2-1/2 or 3 Years, I pulled it off the road sometime around 1989 as I wanted to make it into a street rod. I sold the Engine and Tranny, then Chopped the Top and did Suicide Doors and a bunch of other stuff, plus started a new engine build.
