Starting bid $550. I could think of aot better things to spend $550 on.
And to think you could only see them when the hood is opened.

I have a set of these installed on my 65 Fastback..
They are admittedly pricey..
I really like the look and it finished off my engine compartment nicely.
It is really no different than spending money on a set of high end wheels or any other quality appearance mod.
Also as an unexpected added bonus these hinges allow you to really adjust and fine tune the fitment of your hood far more than standard hinges.
I have a fiberglass hood and these hinges solved my fitment issues..

Aren't these designed/made by the Ring Bros.? That would explain the high quality and excellent engineering (and the high price). Yeah, $550 is pricey, but after my nearly 20 years of uneven hoods and poor adjustment, it might be worth it...

...and no prop rod needed for those of us with FG hoods...hmmmm...they are gorgeous...nope...STILL too much $$$ to justify.

honestly, i would get these in a heart beat if it werent for the price tag(ok i would get them anyways) but it says its for 65-70, would they not work on 71-73's?

Very nice. My steel hinges wore out after 30 years....if the joints are all aluminum they won't last near that long.

Very nice, but I agree that it's one of those aesthetic mods like wheels. I would get them long after wheels as well, as how often do you see them? Granted they may work very nicely, but not that ($) nicely.

Dave I think there are no bids because everyone is waiting for the last minute bid war, so the price doesn't slowly creep up beforehand.

I think the price bid war will not exist. I never knew of these until this post and everybody seems to be in agreement...we want them, but for half the price. Sell none at 550 or a bunch at 225? If anybody has an e-mail account with e-bay, they should link the guy to this thread. I don't do e-bay or pay-pal myself.

Those are the Ring Brothers' hinges. They showed them in this months Hot Rod. Nice looking hinges, ricockulous price.

My builder bought them direct from Ring Bros.

These hinges first appeared on Ring Bros. black 67 Mustang
(featured in Hot Rod Feb. 06)
They were initially offered @ $800 and then they dropped
their price to $600.
I frequent a couple of Pro Touring websites and quite a few of them have already ordered sets for their cars..
I have no idea what it really costs to turn out these hinges but they really are very well done.

Marketing and sales is not where they need the most help (in my opinion), they need help in reducing their manufacturing costs.

While I agree that everyone here would be happy to see the price cut in half that simply is not reasonable. Materials alone likely cost $200+, but if they could make them more efficiently and sell more units at a smaller margin ($350-4000 seems reasonable to me), they just might see net profits quadruple.

I might be wrong but I don't think these could be made for $350-$400
It is easy to underestimate the expense of building a specific part.
What is the real cost for these hinges out the door?
One needs to include:
Materials
labor
design costs (patent/legal fees if applicable)
overhead..Utilities,rent/mortgage,taxes,cost of CNC equip,maint on equip etc..
Insurance
Marketing
And lastly profit for the owners...

At the current manufacturing and sales rate I agree completely. If they were able to sell 10X as many as they do now they can reduce their profit MARGIN by 8X and make more money. Manufacturing costs (per unit) always go down when you make more widgets more efficiently, that was what ol' Henry taught us ~100 years ago.

It might be impossible, I dont claim to know for sure, but selling more units at a lower margin and increasing profits has been done for a long time. Wal-Mart has one of the lowest profit margins in the history of retail, but their net profits set records each year.

If this part is as it looks and fully machined from a billet, they only way you're going to speed up the process is automated machining centers, or many many CNC machines. They'd have to sell a lot more to pay for it... These aren't stampings that can be pumped out at 1 per second. Their probably lucky if they can machine the parts for one hinge in a couple hours time.
