hood pins, howto? tips? tricks?

well, you all know. i lost a ****ty hood..
got a nice new cervini's sitting in the living room now.

and ordered a nice ford racing hood pin set, with chrome scuff plates, and lanyards(cords that hold the pins).

well anyways. i dont really know how this whole setup goes.
im guessing they replace the stock rubber hood bumpers?

but what about the lanyard things, where should i connect those bastards to? bottom of the hood pin setup?

and, any tips about drilling my beautiful new $400 hood would be much appreciated. i dont want to F this wonderful thing up.

ill post pictures of the new hood, and pins if youd like.

First center your hood up install it good. Then pull out the hood bumpers. Put the pins centered where they were. Bolt em down. Now put tooth paste on the tops of the pins and rest the hood on it. where the tooth paste is drill your hole a little bigger then the pin itself. The plates just drill little holes and they will skrew right in. Thats how i did mine and they work fine.

I did mine a couple of months ago, and am very happy with it. The easyest way is as above replacing the rubber stops with the pins, but this is not the best way. At high speeds, the front corners of the hood will flex up and down eith out the rubber stops.

I had to drill a hole in the back of the front support to put the lower nuts and wrench in to hold the pins.

I wanted my pins where the bumpers were cause that where it looked the best as far pin location. I removed the both bumpers and installed pins in their place. I then made new spots to the outsides of the pins for the bumpes to go and installed them there. I put liquid paper or something like that (can't remember) on the top of the pins and set the hood down on them to mark them. Drilles the holes, drilled holes for and riveted the plates on (I put rtv on the backsides of the plates), adjusted the bumpers and pins, and installed the cables.

There's no "one way" to do a pin install. Some hoods are different, some pins are different. You may want your pins closer or farther apart, etc... It does work better I think w/ the bumpers installed as well.

I also put the pns in where the bumpers used to be on my ornage car. I like them best there. I didn't have any hood problems, it was always very tight.

With the dual layer fiberglass, drilling down from the top through the top layer and up through the bottom with be less likely to splinter. I think using maskign tape around it will help as well. I drilled the holes progressively bigger (starting very small) and then once I got the hood to close, I put the scuff plates on and used my dremel with a sanding drum to open them up to the edges of the scuff plates. It left a nice edge and lnd them up perfect as well. It is a little messy if you do it that way though. Other tips on here are good as well.

I did mine the same way RsStanG1987 describes, except I used wet paint on the pin and then cleaned it off before it dried, I think I like the tooth paste idea better though.
