Hood pins...

not to hard if you have a fiberglass hood. The way i did mine was took out the rubber stoppers and used that hole since the hood already has the spot for them. Then i stood back 10 ft or so to check to make sure they were all plumb. Then put some masking tape in the rubber stopper seat on the hood used some red grease and gently closed the hood and just drilled out the mark it left with a roto zip. and bored out the hole once the scuff plates were installed also with the roto zip. total time 30 mins(i used the frpp kit also)

I thoguht they were nerve racking to install, with nice paint on the hood I was nervous. But overall, I did them basically the same way as 88stangmangt and it went smooth and wasn't hard.

I did the same basic method with mine, but I didn't use the rubber hood bumper holes. My pins are farther from the corners of the hood, lined up with the headlight/parkinglight seam. This is both a structurally stronger place on the hood, and allows me to retain the use of the factory hood bumpers. Now a little off topic, what brand of pins are you two using, and how are they holding up? I got the Moroso kit a couple years ago, and they stayed looking great for a couple of months at the most. Now they look like crap, all stained and oxidized. I want to put new ones in, but don't want to get these ones again and have it happen all over again. Are you all happy with yours?

i used fords kit the pin's rusted so i went to home depot and for about 2 dollars got some diff one's and didnt have that problem again.

I used the Ford kit and no problems at all.
As for the location -- maybe different hoods are different, but the hood bumper spot had alot of meat under my hood -- and it worked out great. I actually didn't need the hood bumpers, as the rubber along the sides of the hood held it from going too low, and then I adjusted the pins so they held just a little bit of pressure on the hood. Like I said, worked out really well.

Never had the situation come up where my car was alone in a parking lot...but I suppose you could use the lanyards and it would help.

I have the lanyards on mine, I don't think it would make any difference theft wise. Maybe if the pin was welded to the lanyard or something, but at least on mine it's just a loop at the end you poke the pin through. Mainly handy cause you don't lose the pins while working under the hood. As a sidenote, the lanyards are plastic coated, and somehow managed to rust anyway. I definately don't recommend the Moroso kit 
I just installed the Mr. Gasket kit the other day, they are chrome, so thats 20hp! I did mine a little different, it was very easy for me. I located and installed the scuff plates last. I put them in place of the stock bumpers. Then cut some pieces of 3/4" heater hose and pushed it over the pins and nuts under the hood. Now it has a new bumper on the hood pin. My kit is supposed to be stainless. the un-coated cables and the scuff plates are stainless, the pins are chrome. I could not find my silicone. I will take them apart and seal them where no water can get in when I find it or get some more. I am going to use touch-up paint on the edges of the holes I drilled and seal the threads on the screws with it silicone too, otherwise there will be rust in a short time. Look at the similar threads at the bottom of this page. There is a good write-up in one of them for the install. The instructions sucked. I have been a metal fabricator for 10 years, so I had an easy time.

if it is what your thinking about i believe moroso make em you need a key to get in they help keep out would be theievs.

one of my friends just uses small locks like for a locker at work, that way people cant open it if they tried (basically same thing squeeeg is referring to)
