I'm looking at getting some Long Tube headers here in the near future and was wondering what y'all thought of BBK and Hooker. Both are about the same price (hooker - $600; BBK - $500) but I was wondering if there were fitment problems with either of these two brands and what everybody thought of them.

Thanks in advance!

JBA is a little out of my price range. I just want to know the differences between BBK and Hooker.

IMO i would save up for some dynatechs, american racing headers, or kooks. Yeah they are more expensive but they won't rust, unlike the BBkS. They have a higher grade of stainless steel (304). Just my opinoin. You can also get the package that has the mid pipe with everything needed to install them.

just a question, b/c i was looking at the same headers, if you buy the coated bbk's or hookers, or even mac for that matter, wouldnt they resist rust as well, regardless of the 409 stainless they use? just a question i had been wondering

From what I have read and heard, the coating eventually will fail, and flake off of the header leaving them exposed to the elements and exhaust. For sure they will last longer than a set that is uncoated, but eventually they will deteriorate. I was in the same position you guys were a little while ago. I was hell bent on not paying 1,200+ for a pair of headers, but the quality, and the fact that it is an all inclusive kit is good too. I don't think you get that with the BBKs or Macs. All this being said, I have not ordered my set yet of headers, but I can assure you that I will be purchasing Kooks, Dyantech, or American Racing. Usually you get what you pay for. Also there is a pic somewhere of a set of 409 coated JBAs that are rusted. I'll see if I can find it a post it.

Ya know, I say Forget you to the prices for headers for these cars. WTF is wrong with us paying 40% more for everything compared to the SN95/edge guys. The cost of materials for the manufacturer can not cost that much more, and they way overprice the stuff because people will pay it. $1299 for some stainless metal pipes? For real? Gadamn that is ridiculous.

With having said that, you get what you pay for. I will NOT pay that kind of money for headers ever.

Yeah, while I was doing my searches, i kind of noticed the price hike for 05-07s. I figure if you can wait until the redesigned Stangs in 09-10 or whenever then the price will go down. Our cars are the hot stuff right know since they are the newest generation, and the only game in town. That being said, I can't wait that long so hopefully I can save up this summer and feed the mod bug.

Hooker

I dont see paying twice as much... Hooker's are equal length and tuned... buy some thermal tape, and tape them; save a couple $. Stick with a name thats been areound, price cant be the reason to buy something, but could be the reason NOT to buy when the cost isnt conducive to accomplish the upgrade.

My 2c

I read your sig, and it says that you have Lts, but i though equal length headers were shorties? Please correct me if i am wrong.

"...near equal length..."

Equal length term used to describe 'short' headers refers to some being VERY unequal in length, and others near equal for better tuning.

No need to get a mic. out, but 'near' equal longtubes

it seems like the only thing for those cars that isnt outrageously priced is drop springs and some other suspension stuff. but paying double for a set of headers such as basssani when they are halkf the price for the last gen just makes me sick. i really want a set of bassani lt's and their matching x to go with my bassani race mufflers( which i paid 500 for, but it was a gift so not my money, , but i cant see paying over 1200 for the set when they sell for aorund 6-750 for the older stangs

SN95's have been out since 1994...that model year has quite a few years on the S197 models. That is the reason for the price hike. Research and Design on how to fit everything on the new cars takes time and money and all of the mods for the new 3v motor takes time and money. Nobody knows what is best for these cars yet (still) although a lot of progress has been made. I mean, just look at throttle body spacers. On the SN-95 they were very helpful...not so much on the new cars.

That being said...I will not pay 1300+ for headers. Sure, I'm sure they are great, but from what I've read, the 404 stainless steel only has surface rust and wont rust all the way through for quite some time (10+ years or so). Get them coated and you have a lot less to worry about and if you're really worried...heat wrap them. I don't want to dish out 1k on a set of headers...I can spend that money elsewhere (rims/tires).

I'd go with hooker man, and get them coated. It's a reputable name and a reasonable price.

So the difference between the jet hot & ceramic is the jet hot are caoted inside and out? Is it worth the extra coin?
