Need an oil pump gasket and O'Reilly and Autozone both would have to order it, so I had to wait a few hours for it to arrive, which wasn't a huge deal because I have other stuff to do anyway. I knew my truck was low on gas, so I was planning to get gas (auto stores are only like 3 miles from my house), but forgot and just decided to get gas when I went back to pick up the gasket. Needless to say, about 3/4 mile from my house and 1/4 mile from one gas station (the gas station by the auto parts stores is better/cheaper), the truck sputtered and died...out of gas. I managed to get it off the road and into an empty driveway. I had to walk the (luckily only) 1/4 mile in 95 degree weather, pay $6 for a 2 gallon gas can and then buy gas to get the truck back to the gas station to fill it up - $75-ish.

Either way, I get home and start to get my timing cover ready to put on and discover the block I bought from the machine shop (mine was bad) has something either welded up or something in one of the bolt holes around where the coolant goes through the block into the timing cover. I couldn't drill it w/ my drill, so had to take it to the machine shop and he's seeing about it now. I really hope he can tap the hole for the timing cover because I've got most of it built and had the block bored, etc. Really it's his fault for selling me a ****ty block, but it'll set me back a few more weeks if he can't fix it.

I covered the short block w/ cardboard on the top to keep the pistons and block surfaces from getting really dirty, put the oil pan on w/ a few bolts to keep the crank and everything from getting dirty and ended up breaking an oil pan bolt off in the block. He did say he can get that oil pan bolt out.

I have to drive my truck up on ramps to get the back end low enough to get the short block from the engine stand up in there; then I pick up the block w/ engine stand and sit it on the tailgate and unbolt the engine stand. It wasn't too bad before w/ just the block, but w/ the crank, pistons, rods, and cam in the block, it's probably 250 lbs or close to it and heavy as hell. I had to put it in the back of the truck by myself, which was a chore (I'm only 130 lbs), but I managed.

While waiting for a call from the machine shop about my block, I decided to utilize my time and go ahead and change the speedo gear in my tranny, so I was trying to knock the roll pin in the offset lever in the tranny through w/ a wrong-sized punch and now I've broken the punch off in the roll pin.

I think I'll quit for today lol. I think this week has been one of the worst in a long time.

If your day has been worse than this, I'm really sorry.

lol, it's sometimes interesting how I don't think twice about stuff like this happening because I'm so used to a lot of stuff going wrong. Don't get me wrong, I guess I should have went and checked out the block before I even had them bore it, but I trusted them to do that for me since I was buying it from them. Even still, I should have discovered that timing cover bolt hole problem before now, but I didn't.

The broken oil pan bolt was my fault for getting in a haste and not thinking about the minimal torque of oil pan bolts and the fact that there was no gasket would keep it from sealing all the way down.

I was kinda asking for it w/ the tranny roll pin....I used a punch I was farily confident wasn't the right one. I read (before I broke the punch off in there) that some guy got roll pin punch's from harbor freight and neglected to purchase some (although I did look on autozone.com for them and came up empty handed.

I've had nothing but ****ty luck w/ this car period. One step forward and two steps back is how it seems to be going. No call back from the machine shop tonight, so maybe in the morning. I think I'll try to drive the tranny roll pin on through again tomorrow.

Good thing I don't drink, I'd be an alcoholic (which is why I don't in the first place).

One thing I can say is that I've learned how to do some of this engine stuff, which I've been wanting to do for a while now. I know some people have still forgotten more than I know, but you gotta start somewhere.:nice: lol, I also learned that my cam is an E303 instead of the B303 the guy told me when I bought the car. Still makes me want to cream my pants when I hear it lope:hail2:

Thanks for reading all of this BS...for some reason it does make me feel better for griping...

As far as automotive wise you've had the worst by far. Today was one of the most miserable days of my life though. Family problems that have grew near out of control, and I'm about to just lose it. Pulled my headers out today for my new ones for tommorow but it went smoothly. Had to do something to get my mind off crap, and wrenching or driving is my way.

Yeah, of course family problems, health-related issues, losing jobs, etc is usually worse than a car problem - especially when it's your 3rd vehicle. Luckily, I'm in no immediate hurry because I can drive my 90 LX 5.0 and my 98 Silverado, but I wanted to get this engine back in this weekend as it's been out for 6 weeks now.

Maybe break the engine in nice and make sure it runs good and sell the car on ebay. Who knows

Good luck w/ everything
