Need an oil pump gasket and O'Reilly and Autozone both would have to order it, so I had to wait a few hours for it to arrive, which wasn't a huge deal because I have other stuff to do anyway. I knew my truck was low on gas, so I was planning to get gas (auto stores are only like 3 miles from my house), but forgot and just decided to get gas when I went back to pick up the gasket. Needless to say, about 3/4 mile from my house and 1/4 mile from one gas station (the gas station by the auto parts stores is better/cheaper), the truck sputtered and died...out of gas. I managed to get it off the road and into an empty driveway. I had to walk the (luckily only) 1/4 mile in 95 degree weather, pay $6 for a 2 gallon gas can and then buy gas to get the truck back to the gas station to fill it up - $75-ish.
Either way, I get home and start to get my timing cover ready to put on and discover the block I bought from the machine shop (mine was bad) has something either welded up or something in one of the bolt holes around where the coolant goes through the block into the timing cover. I couldn't drill it w/ my drill, so had to take it to the machine shop and he's seeing about it now. I really hope he can tap the hole for the timing cover because I've got most of it built and had the block bored, etc. Really it's his fault for selling me a ****ty block, but it'll set me back a few more weeks if he can't fix it.
I covered the short block w/ cardboard on the top to keep the pistons and block surfaces from getting really dirty, put the oil pan on w/ a few bolts to keep the crank and everything from getting dirty and ended up breaking an oil pan bolt off in the block. He did say he can get that oil pan bolt out.
I have to drive my truck up on ramps to get the back end low enough to get the short block from the engine stand up in there; then I pick up the block w/ engine stand and sit it on the tailgate and unbolt the engine stand. It wasn't too bad before w/ just the block, but w/ the crank, pistons, rods, and cam in the block, it's probably 250 lbs or close to it and heavy as hell. I had to put it in the back of the truck by myself, which was a chore (I'm only 130 lbs), but I managed.
While waiting for a call from the machine shop about my block, I decided to utilize my time and go ahead and change the speedo gear in my tranny, so I was trying to knock the roll pin in the offset lever in the tranny through w/ a wrong-sized punch and now I've broken the punch off in the roll pin.
I think I'll quit for today lol. I think this week has been one of the worst in a long time.
If your day has been worse than this, I'm really sorry.
