Well anyways... you get the picture.

A coincedence that I got my car on the road yesterday morning before the Easter festivities at my house. The Baer brakes need to be "seasoned" yet so no real report on them yet.

But as you may have guessed. The arse end hops like a bunny rabbit now with the changes made back there. I've got the Powertrax locker and I'm running the 3.80 gears now. Lot's of fun. Big smiles all around. BUT, the dead stop launch is all Peter CottonTail. Oh well.. at least I know I'm getting traction down...

Now to alleviate that problem I need to add a traction device. I did a search here and it seems if you have the money... Cal-Tracs are the way to go.

If anybody else has a point to make... please chime in. And buy the way... for those that already have them... how was the install? Welding?

Thanks for your time, as usual....

The Cal-Tracs are the way to go but they are basically an improved Shelby underride bar which can be had for about $65 at American Pony. While the Cal-Tracs may be more advanced the Shelby bars do the trick. On My '66 Shelby they work pretty good. With them on I get pretty good traction and with them off I can spin the tires forever.....so they must be doing something, and I have never had wheelhop with them.

Okay... maybe I could specify my question...

Who here has had axle hop... and then added a traction device such as the Caltrac to solve it?

How did it work?

I'm not concern greatly about the tires spinning... I'm more concerned about my axle hopping out of the car. :)

I had a hopping problem with my 351c in my 65 fastback when I first got it while it was still a mild motor. When I pulled the motor and made it into a 408 stroker I also added some old school shelby underriders that welded into my TCP subframe bars. 400 RWHP and no wheel hop....just 2 long, thick, black lines all the way through first and second from a dead stop.

i cant really say anything about wheel hop...with my rinky-dink 302. However, I just put a nice 9" in and installed caltracs. There is no welding required, they are fully adjustable. You have to remove the front of your leaf spring and hammer out the rubber/metal bushing and replace it with a solid aluminum piece from Calvert Racing (comes with caltracs kit)...other than that, installing them is as easy as changing u bolts! (you dont need new u bolts with cal tracs.
