horrible gaz millage!

A friend of mind have horrible gaz milage with is vert.

He have notice also that the car is pinging at high speed.(highway)

It have new plugs/cap/rotor.fuel filter.

Any ideas?

Check to make sure all the plugs are firing. I had a cracked plug that was not firing and it brought my gas mileage down from 23-18.

Have him pull the codes.

When you get them post 'em and you will get help on interpreting them.

There are too many things to spend time guessing.

What's gaz?

I'd also ask what type of trans he has and what gear and RPM he is at when it pings. Are ambient or operating temps much higher than they have been?
