Says direct bolt on for $600 in catalog. Anyone using this and are you happy with the results?

Yes. Yes.
But not direct bolt-on. They stopped supplying all of the the necessary brackets to attach the rad to the rad support. If you buy it, post and I'll upload pics and description of my home-made brackets that might help. Hey, it's what hotrodders do - fabricate.

Was the wiring pretty easy?

I`m new to the hobby, and not real good at this yet.

Why would I have to fab brackets?

The radiator that came out of it was directly bolted to the radiator support, no brackets there....

I`m missing something here, did you mean maybe I have to fab the bracket to attach the fan to the radiator?

I just ordered it

Directly from Hot Rod Air, saved $100 bucks on it too. The guy said it has the brackets with it too. I hope...

The one I got had brackets, but they were universal brackets that attached to their fan, bu tnot to the rad support. The rad attached directly to the rad support. The fan floats behind the rad, attached to the rad support, but not to the rad, itself.

Look for this thead: "Has anyone purchased this Hot Rod Air electric fan?" I attached some photos to my response there.

I'm old to this hobby (1958) and I am EXTREMLY good with electrical....however, when it comes to an old car that has lots of room for fans I will go with the Flex-a-Lite stainless steel 10,000 rpm unit. It soes not need a shroud because it pulls enough air across the engine to disrupt air to the carb and you have to use a chunk of plywood to block the air so you can dial-in the idle mix/speed.
I'll say this again...K.I.S.S.....the simpler it is, the more reliable it is, the easier it is to work on.
Why spend that kind of money when about $225.00 will but the 3 row radiator and fan?

Well I just dropped $530

On this setup, ya might say I`m commited now. I dropped a chunk of money in the motor, just didnt want to suck down my hp running a fan on the front of it.

When I say I`m new at this, I really mean NEW, I have changed my own oil but thats about it. I`m getting a little intimidated to tell you the truth, I`ve got a huge parts pile now and lot of money out, and i`m gonna get stuck here and there. I`m sure I`m gonna make some bad decisions along this route, but how else am I gonna learn?

Unless you are racing in a serious manner you will NEVER feel the difference. You loose much more hp turning the water pump...think about it. Plus the Flex-a-Lite flattens out at rpm! Sounds like a blower to.

I`m thinking of cancelling this order now....

Hot Rod Air told me they were out of stock till late next week anyway. Now I`m back to selecting a good radiator and fan again though, although the "simple" factor appeals to me greatly. Anyone got any suggestions?

One thing really caught my attention on Hot Rod Airs website too, the recomend 2500 cfm flow for cooling, and the kit they sell was rated at like 17oo I think, I`d have to look again to be sure.

I went to an electric fan/shroud combination, but more for clearance for a blower drive than anything else. I fabricated my own system using a stock fan shroud as the fan mounting piece and went from there. Much cheaper, too.
