I looked through my factory service manual and can't find a way to test rear window defrost. I want to test a rear window defrost unit on a hatch that is removed from the car; I'm planning to sell the hatch and want to test the rear window defrost before selling - never have installed it on my car.

Any ideas other than wiring it up to my car? It's not cold, so I don't know how I'd accurately test the condition of the unit anyway.

you could hook some power to it and see if the elements get warm....put in in a cool place and breath on it lol I don't really know how you can get frost or fog on it.

Test for continuity between the lines.

Put the hatch in a giant freezer, then hook it back up

Only real way to test it is to operate it.

You might be able to test resistance in a known working hatch between the two tabs that hook up to the wiring and see if this hatch has the same value.

Best way to test is to bolt the hatch on a car, get a hot girl in the car and start making out...then turn the defroster on

If you're in a hurry... A fat chick might get the windows steamed up a bit quicker.

Especially after you make her walk up and down a flight of stairs a couple times.
