how do i choose a clutch and flywheel?

calling all experts (gp001 in particular - you sold me on the ROD)

i am ready to purchase a 460W (yes, "W") and a richmond 6 speed.

how do i choose a clutch and flywheel. if it helps, i am shooting for 550-600HP. I don't really understand the differences in clutch set ups, but this is a street/drag car...so whatever u think is best...

also, it looks like summit has a lakewood bellhousing with scattershield, will this bolt up with no clearance issues?

couldn't tell you much about clutches or flywheels at that power level, but DEFINETALY get a scattershield. cheap insurance for your feet and legs...

one thing to think about when looking at clutches/flywheels is weight. less weight, quicker car will rev and accelerate. a really lightweight setup will make the car hard to launch/drive on the street tho, so don't go too light.

With the torque output you're looking at on any 460 c.i.d. motor, and the fact you're going to have the diameter limited to small block offerings, you're going to at least need something like a Centerforce Dual friction to handle it. Flywheel size ? You'll need a 164 tooth flywheel for sure. Forget a 157 tooth, the largest clutch size there is 10.5" and that ain't gonna work. Be prepared to spend upwards of $350 for just the clutch and pressure plate, the cheaper stock and heavy duty stockers ain't gonna work.

that's it, $350?

i'm not to concerned with the cost (well, i'm not stressing about it) because i have around 40K budgeted for the car. I am more interested in trying to figure out fitment, the quality i can figure out.

I recommend not purchasing Lakewood. The manufacturing tolerances are not as close/ideal as a Mcleod. Lakewood is much harder to align and dial in as opposed to Mcleod. I am stating this from four experiences.
