how do i get the cam gears off

i have 99 mustang gt pi heads and im changing the cams and i want to take the cam gears off the factory cams how would i do this?

Sledgehammer.... Those are press on sprockets and won't work with an aftermarket cam. You need new sprockets, spacers and bolts/washers (if the cams don't come with them....

GT200JAY, did your VT cams come with the cam gears?

No - no gears or spacers you need to order those. I recommend talking to Randy in the www.modulardepot.com parts forum if you need them. He's helped me out several times and is VERY knowledgeable. The cams did come with bolts and washers, though.

So your saying when i get the new cams it will come with the gear on it already?

Sorry, I wasn't very clear. Cams will not come with sprockets or spacers. You will need to order those. Check with the cam manufacturer on the bolts and washers - some, like VT, will send bolts/washers with the cams.
