Hi I want to ask how do I make an AOD with TV shifting work on my 2.3L 1986 mustang that should have kickdown. guys let me know please. I plan tons of future upgrades and having the AOD makes sense considering I'm planning on dropping a 5.0 in and well I don't do stick just yet.
Please let me know

PS: what cars had the standard AOD and beginning what year did they starty putting A4OD's in and ALOD?

I know about me having to change the crossmember that was included in the plan, I need answers, ergo solutions please not negativity.
but it looks like I'm getting another regular one for now, but I would still like an answer and also how I make it work with the 5.0 afterwards.
without computer help
I will be getting a 5.0 FI I hope I can find a mustang one or at least a mustang 5.0 computer because a thunderbird computer cuts the performace by 50 hp well if I can only get a thunderbird one I will be getting the a4ld trans and the computer because that just makes sense but if I can find a mustang one I want a regular AOD because no need for computer :)

man I haven't been to enough schooling, that hurt my head.

Here's the gist of it.
A4LD:2.3 trans removable bellhousing, specific convertor.
AOD: Non removable bellhousing, completely different bolt patterns and a plate would to be made plus the convertor would have to be shimmed into the front pump.

You lost me in all that computer talk.

The AOD wont work with the 2.3. It has a deffernt bell house pattern that is not compatible. Also i believe the computer control on the aod is much differnt than the a4ld (the 2.3 auto tranny).

Now , like stinger said, its a moot point.
Sure with lots of time and money you can make your own pattern bell housing, modify the main shaft and the cross memeber and drive shaft...but by that time, you will not be able to mount a 5.0 to it anymore.

Also if your looking for a 5.0, look into an 5.0 H.0. ...the non-HO motors came in everything and are what your refering too (50hp or so hp short). Its not just the computer, i believe its the firing order, manifold, etc.

LOL 5slow :p :rlaugh: Also well the A4ld won't work with my 2.3 nor the 5.0 because it's computer steered grr arrb (at least not the mustang comp) because well arrb the 5.0 in those years only came with a 5speed.
Learn how to drive a 5 speed, probably doable but with the amount of city driving I will be doing it will certainly bite because the drivers in los angeles are crazy.
So AOD will work with the 5.0 :D well it will have to wait for that :D
now two questions
#1 what is the difference between the HO and NON HO (HO come again what it stand for)
#2 did I understand correctly that the computer is not the problem and I could use a thunderbird computer and still get more HP if I use the HO motor? because that would be cool because that way I could find myself a newer transmission :P
#3 how do I recognize the HO from the non HO and another thing anyone have photos (or links to what AOD and HO and all the other stuff looks like exactly. would help when I'm trawling through the junk yards with my wishlist.
because when I get my money together I'll be pulling most stuff in 3-4 days probably the half off christmas sale :P (at three different pick a parts)
Ahh another thing will the kmember off a thunder bird (5.0) work on a mustang or do I have to go trawling for a 5.0 hatch to make this work?

not to be mean but please go to the 5.0 section and read alot then ask a few queations ive been around the ho non ho motors for quite awile now.
Heres a few facts for u though the ho motors have diffrent cam, upper intake, throttle body, injectors, heads wiring harness and computer and u would need a speed denisity harnes for an 86 only mustang to just plug it in otherwise ud need to cut and splice wires to even get it running
Oh and the aod was never computer controled the aode was and the a4ld (4 cyl trans)has computer controled 4th and tc lock up hope this helps

not to be rude but, You do know that this is the 2.3 forum right?
Some of the guys in here have v-8's but we generally come here to talk 2.3T and N/A, I think that you would get a wealth of knowlege in the 5.0 forum quicker than in here.
