Hey, this was my first time at a track with my car. I have an aod with 3.73's and street tires and not many others mods, (exhaust and underdrives...) I was happy that i got into the 14's on my first run but all my other run and all my others runs were very consistent. Tell me what you think about the times and how i can improve. Thanks for any feedback. Adam

The first thing I would do is a converter. But your times look good for a first time. Get the launch sorted out and it would be 14's everytime.

Yeah, that AOD is hurting ya a bit. like stated before, a stall converter about 2600-2800 would be nice and a shift kit would really imprpove those times. If you know what your doing, those mods will only cost ya like $400 and you will probably drop to the low 14s.
Do you have a full exhaust? only cat-back?
Have you tried doing a throttle body swap....or timing?

I'm pretty confident i could put in a shift kit and a converter. Last night i was able to launch at about 1300-1400. The timing is set at 16 degrees. I have an offroad x-pipe and borla catback. Those are pretty much the extent of my mods at this point. I would like to take off the smog equipment since it isn't even connected to my x-pipe. Is there anyway i can improve my launch. I tried both shifting myself and just leaving it in drive but I didn't try the shuffle. Thanks for the replies.

I had an 88 Mustang Gt with MSD 6AL, 3.73's, cold air and offroad H-pipe. I put in a shift kit and dropped from 14.97's to 14.55's and I was getting poor traction off the line.

i went 14.9 at 92 with a stock AOD, all i did was bump the timing and take out the air box and put on a K&N cone filter. and that was with 2.73's, so im sure you can better that by a whole bunch!

What brand of shift kit did you put in? I don't know how i could really launch differently. I'm only spinning a little bit off the line. I could try launching at a little higher rpm maybe. My car has 120k on it so i might be a little down on the power, who knows.

It was a B@M which I am told is a crappy shift kit, but I think it worked good in my car.

Your mph is right around where mine is, so we are making similar power. Your 60' is a little higher then my average though. Is traction an issue? With 2.73's I was able to get a 2.19 60'. I'd imagine you could do better with 3.73's. On my quickest and fastest run I left off idle, I didn't use the brake and bring the rpms up. How are you leaving the line?

To launch I am power breaking up to 1300-1400 rpm, thats as high as i can go w/o the tires breaking loose. The tires don't spin that much off the line, i had them both down to 25 psi. I hadn't done any weight reduction so I was running in street form. My car was shifting at about 4500.
Oh i went to marion county raceway, its about 45 minutes away from Ohio Northern University.
Thanks for any suggestions

I wouldn't air down street tires at the track, the stock 30 psi gives the best rubber footprint. I do air the fronts up to the max the tire is rated to for less rolling resistance.
