how do u tell a visual difference in a C4 and C6 tranny?

i have a tranny that came out of a crown vic. '82, i think, but i cant tell what kind of tranny it is!!!

A simple visual: C4 has a removable bellhousing, C6 is integrated.

from what i understand, c6 is a lot bigger, right? ok maybe not i dunno

BUT i know that an 82 crown vic probably didnt pull that much power, so it is probably a c4 right? c6s are more for trucks or heavy pulling things right?

What he said. And yes the C6 is physically much larger. A 1982 Crown might well have had an early AOD.

That would be an AOD as suggested, not a c6 or c4. I believe they stopped installing c4's and 6's in LTD's/Crown Victoria's in 1980.
