AutoZone has big green & red felt washers that got under the clamp on terminal and have a corrosion inhibitor in them for $1.

First clean it with a baking soda and water mix to remove any residual battery acid (if you don't do this, the corrosion will keep coming back - and be careful, the reaction can splatter so wear safety goggles and have a hose handy to rinse any residue from painted surfaces) - the bubbles indicate that acid is being neutralized. Once most of the bubbles have stopped, rinse it well with plain water and then dry it. Cover both the male and female terminals liberally with grease. Hook up the battery. Make sure all exposed metal connector surfaces are still covered in grease.
This should stop most of the corrosion for a long time.

The rings work pretty well too... I think they are just impregnated with a strong alkaline (like baking soda) to neutralize the battery acid.
