i just got an IAC spacer plate today and it said i needed to reset my throttle butterfly, but when i did what they said my car would not run at all. so the spacer did not help at all. any ideas anyone?

they would be the people who wrote the instructions that came with the spacer. basically i loosened the throttle bolt all the way off, then put a .002 feeler gauge on it, then tightened it another 1/2 turn, and my car wont run at all like that.

Given your username, you obviously have some mods (read cam, etc which affect the idle quality). The IAC bypass is simply another tool for you to use to try and find a decent idle. I find that I dont use mine much (I run it out to the point of where I start to get a hanging return to idle, which indicates too much air being bypassed). I do the rest of the adjusting with the IAC disconnected on a hot motor, using the throttle stop screw. That is just me (I do it different on a SD car, which should be noted).

My two cents. good luck.

i have read the surging idle checklist and i have been trying everything on there, if i run the idle screw up too much it idles smooth at 1500 rpm, but if i try to lower it down it will just surge from 600-1300, i cant figure it out? the only thing that is not new is the o2 sensors.

Go to that link above. You have to tell the computer that you are changing the idle as well as changing the screw.

yes this is the one i have, should i just adjust it all the way out and then start moving the throttle to set the idle? did you take out the little cup in the middle for more airflow? the instructions said to do that on 5.8 and 7.3 liter motors and i guess mine is close to 5.8 liters since it is a 347.

That could be your problem but i'm not sure. I don't think you should do any adjusting with the stop screw on the throttle body. I made mine so it just rests on it. If you do alot of adjusting with your stop screw your going to have to keep readjusting your throttle position sensor as well. There is alot to it, just have to keep playing with it til its where you want it. Havent you adjusted your iac plate screws all the way out yet?? Good luck.

thanks for your help, i have done everything on that list except clean the throttle body again, i will give it and the IAC a good shot of cleaner, i just cant figure out this thing, it wont idle smooth until i can get it up to 1200-1300 rpm, that just seems like too much.
