I too was once worried about tapping into my oil pan. However, it was one of the easier steps of installing the blower. It's really no big deal. The tap is designed to throw the metal outward. They tell you to change the oil anyway before starting up the car, and, The oil filter will catch anything that might have fallen into the pan.
I'd rather have the 5 quarts of oil cooling the blower then a self contained unit. Damn, those must get super hot and that's not good for the bearrings.

Yeah im still unsure what blower I want to get. I cant afford it for about a year anyway so I got some time to make my decision. Hopefully I can manage to keep my miles low in the time being. Im at 34,000 right now and I dont daily drive it so I should be ok. Some times its hard to resist the urge to drive it everyday though. Who wants to drive an 86 Jetta GLI everyday when u have a STANG???

A lot of how "fast" your car is will be driver ability. I've beaten my fair share of LS1's and Mach1's back in the day when my car was only a bolt-on GT with 3.73's, but that doesn't mean my car actually had more power or should've been "faster" than them given equal drivers.. mostly it was bad driving on the other people's parts. I've also gotten stomped down into the ground by lesser cars than those or cars that I should've easily beaten.

Oh yeah.. LS1 = very mod-friendly

Hey, that's a nice ride that you have. I figure with your mods, your rwhp might be arround 275 or 280 in favorable conditions. Meaning cool air temperature and a non heat-soaked engine.
As far as LS1's go, be careful. If they get the jump on you at the wrong time and wrong speed, they will probably edge away from you in the end. If you race one from a light and the person doesn't know how to drive, you might get away from them. They have incredible top-end power.
I have a 2001 GT with a V2 Vortech (9lbs.) and the Bassani X-pipe with Magnaflow cat-back. The car was never dyno-tuned and I figure about 320 rwhp. I've run some LS1's and I beat them. However, it was not easy.

Wtf.. Never dyno tuned?.. I hope its a Mongoose kit or you at least go the a/f checked. You should be above 320rwhp with that

Your probably at about 285RWHP with the few mods you have. A dyno tune will jump it into the high 290's. The C@L Tru-Flo Intake is only good for 3RWHP and 3RWTQ. People and C@L claiming 10-20RWHP are full of crap. You can install the C@L Intake and immediately dyno it and you will come up with a 8RWHP gain, but after about 1 week, the engine will figure out your trying to fool it, and it will reconfigure itself and you'll end up with a 3 and 3 gain max.
