how good is a T56

i am looking to get a new trany for my stang cos i am making more hp and torque...my T3650 won't last long.Is T56+spec stage 3 plus(clutch) a good combo?..i have a centerforce clutch in mine now that is only has 1500 miles on it but i was told that when u put in a new trany,u should also put in a new clutch.Is that true?....how good is a spec stage 3 plus?....

Personally, I think my T-56 is hard to shift and notchy. Kinda like an old alison tractor... Hopefully they are not all like that...

If you are driving normally it shifts fine. Try to speed shift/high rpm shift and it kinda sucks.

then how about the TKO600?.....is that batter then the T56?

From what I have heard, yes absolutely a TKO600 is better.

My t56 & MGW shifter was notchy at first but it's gotten much smoother recently. I'm guessing my shifter is finally broken in. I'd personally take a t56 over a TKO 600 on a street car. TKO's are better suited for drag racing though.

T56 are notchy but you get used to it quick. if youre having trouble shifting, a firewall adjuster is a quick and cheap solution for the cobra guys.

as far as power handling, it can take quite the beating, i rarely hear of issues with guys breaking them even at 600rwhp levels.

i have a t56 from rockland standard gear in my 70 chevelle.. i love it and the guy guarranty it to take 800 ft lbs for three years unlimited miles. its been in the car for about 4 years and never had a prob with it. it is a notchy feeling shift as kt said but i got used to it and it doesnt bother me anymore. the nicest thing is that you can gear the heck out of the car and still go down the highway at a nice rpm.
