WD-40 will be your best friend. and be ready to get some back cramps. but otherwise its pretty straight foward. ive switched out my stock with my o/r a few times for emissions testsing and its not that hard, but still time consuming. i would suggest using a little jack to put under the crossover when removing the stock pipe bc its a heavy bastard and it will put less stress on the bolts.

well i've got the PB blaster, the bolts dont wanna budget, i've coverd the bolts in the stuff, so any tips??? what if i just cut the bots off, and put new ones on???

well i just got in, i couldnt really do much with my stock h pipe, i soaked the bolts in PB, but they wouldnt budge, dad didnt want me fooling with it that much until he could be there, but more than likely we'll just cut the bolts, and put in new ones in its place.

yea mat...i just ordered my o/r h tonite from summit.....im in the same boat as you...16, and my dad is being stubborn bout puttin it in in the cold weather....lol...anyway...i wanna hear any problms you have or any shortcuts u took

well we'd have it on, but he's been working, so he has a day off monday, and we're off for xmas break, so i guess i'll just have to wait till them

Off-Topic, afterI installed my H-pipe my check engine light came on, and now I am getting HORRIBLE gas mileage. Could the check engine light make my car run rich?

Yes it can. I'm not sure on the v6 stock mid-pipes but I would assume the cat where BEFORE the o2 sensors. On the 5.0 the cats are located AFTER the o2s so they read the same no real change. But if the cats are before the o2s they are reading hoter, richer air triggering the light. Make sense?

EDIT-I just saw you have a gt not a v6(went by your user name sorry) the the 4.6 had the cats before the o2s they also used the OBD11 system where the 5.0 used the OBD1 not as sensative.

start spraying all 8 bolts now once a day till monday that will make a big difference. ive seen people not spray and use impact and break the header stud. not good

You could use a propane torch and heat the bolts up. It will then come off much easier

alright guys, i need some help, the bolts are rusted, if i try to hard with the impact wrench, i'll break the header studs. If i do break the header studs, is there a way to replace them, and how hard would it be. I havent tried too much to work on it, because i've still gotta drive it. I'm going to take all day monday to work on it with my dad. I've been spraying PB penatrating oil, on it, so maybe the bolts will get loose.

So the real question, is about the header studs, what if i break them???

What I did after about 4 days of not being able to get the header to H-Pipe out, I bathed the bolts in PB. Then I heated the bolt for like 5 min till they turned red, put the impact bolt in (needed a $15 extender from Sears) and it slowy came off. I might of kept the heat on the socket as the impact gun kept on clicking away. Good luck mine was a major pain in the ass. The guys saying it only took 45 min must live in Florda or be very lucky/experenced.

well we got the ones off of a mustang v6's exhaust, i guess we can get this one, we dont really have a way to heat it, and i'm going to keep the PB on it, i put on PB and drive it, so maybe that helps??? But what if we break the studs??

The studs can be replaced no big deal. You said in a post earlier you were going to use a torch.

ok guys, i guess i answered my own question, its going to be too hard. My car, before I had it, was up north, and the salt must of corroeded the bolts. We have an air impact wrench, and an electric one, and neither one would budge the bolts at all. We dont have a torch, or any tools to cut the bolts and stuff. So we're about to leave to find someone local that will do it. Secretly that is.

ok update, if anyone cares Ok, we went to some exhaust shops and nobody could do it today, so we came home and decided that we would do it ourselves. We cut the studs off with a dye grider, and dropped the h-pipe. The studs screw out thank god, so we took the studs out with little problem. We went out and bought new studs, and hardware. And came in for supper. So in a minute we're going to finish the exhaust, which shouldnt take more than an hour or so.

BTW the thing that helped us the most was the PB Blaster Penatrating Oil. It was a life saver. Thanks for the help guys.
