How long does the average clutch / tranny last?

I have almost 70K miles on my 2002GT and I am not having problems with either, but I am just trying to plan on how long they will last.

Should I start thinking about a new clutch and rebuild soon?

i got 76k out of my clutch but had a fair amount of track passes and powershifts on it(close to 60 passes). Tranny had 79k and took a crap after 6,200 launches on slicks( think i broke a tooth before i went and then just made it worse)

IDK if it helps but my 98 gt's clutch lasted over 100K miles. As long as it dont smoke at the track or smell ungodly bad your good.

my 02 gt has 93k on stock clutch and tranny, no passes on a track but im pretty abusive on it. and it went through about a mile or 2 parade which is riding a clutch the whole time...could smell it inside.

how you drive it is more the issue over how long in terms of time it lasts.

if youre taking off and easing out of the clutch gradually slipping it then itll wear faster. anytime you slip/ease out of the clutch you put strain on it.

i dont know if my source is true or not, but i always heard its better for the clutch to be fully engaged as fast as possible. however, thats also directly opposite for the rest of the drivetrain.

My 3rd gear in my T-45 is whining unbelivably loud. All the other gears seem fine though. 3rd gear actually seems fine other than the whine. So what comes next after the whine? *BOOM*? :d

I had to replace my tranny but my clutch is fine with 50k on it.

I've just hit 110k miles on my '97 Gt and the clutch is doing great.

I'm now on my 3rd clutch at 64k. My motor was replaced shortly after 50k, so I had the first one replaced while the motor was out. Then second one, was a really crappy install I guess because it only lasted me a little over 11k. I just finished breaking in the new one about a thousand miles ago.

My tranny whines pretty badly. I've had people ask if my car is supercharged. So, I'm guessing i'm going to have to fix it sometime soon. Can I upgrade to a 6 speed easily?

Mine last about 100k then I installed the sc. That was hard on it.

My 98 GT stock clutch went out at 72,000......my NPI manifold olso cracked at 75,000

all depends on the driver. my stock clutch went at 27k miles. im now at 46k miles; my cluch is feeling weak and my tranny has needed a re-build since it hit ~30k. bad syncros. and when i say bad, i mean reverse grinds going in, 1st is inaccesible unless you cycle 4th to 3rd to 2nd, then 1st when starting from a stop, and now my third gear has recently become hard to shift into. it takes me ~ 2 sec between shifts to "coerce" the shifter into gear.

you always talk about this broken tooth. what gear is the tooth chipped, and who even told you you had a broken tooth?

I guess I don't need to worry about my 3rd gear whine so much from the sounds of this

My clutch had like 84k on it before it went out. The tranny feels like its not far behind it.

107k on mine, absolutly no issues at all. Tranny feels as good as a new one, and the clutch is cherry. It's all about the driver, time has nothing to do with it, I agree with that.

I've never had a clutch go bad, 3 stangs and 1 Mclaren Capri, so far, 3 5.0's and my '99 Limited. The way I pull out is alot different than others, I dont just compensate gas when letting out the clutch, I tap the gas...like, tap tap tap, jumping the rpm up a few times as I pull out, i'd like to think i'm putting no wear on it at all. I dunno, i'm sure there's a few of you who understand what I mean.

I put 160k on my Capri 5.0, sold it to a friend, and he's still driving it with no problems at 179k. The motor sounds like new still, and I got it with VERY low miles. Tranny is perfect.
