That would be 5 with a filter change.... Don't forget you have (2) drain plugs.

Occasionally I do a change using 1 qt 5/30 Mobil 1 & 4 qts 10/30... been doing that for years with no issues I can see..

Andy's got you covered.

I've also done the homebrews (mixing some PAO basestock with conventional oil).

yeah?

Can someone answer this in a definite manner. I've always been curious about this. I had a scare one time that I mixed them, and always wondered if it was a bad thing to practice.

I can't really give you a difinitive answer but it can't be much different than buying "synthetic blend" oil

You can mix no problems.

Go to the site of the oils you want to mix and read their thoughts. Most all of them say it's fine to mix synthetics and conventional oils.
If it's that big of an issue, just run a synthetic or just a conventional oil (or a dedicated blend).

In the early days of synthetics, there had been issues with mixing basestocks. Maybe that's what you're thinking of.

Good luck.

I go to wally world, the only thing I buy at wally world actually....

They stock a 5qt jug of mobil1 for like 22$...at least it was last time, have not looked since I put the car up for the winter last Oct./Nov. Best deal I have found and all 5qts in one jug...no jug and 1qt hauling to the checkout crap.

I put mobil1 in the wifes zx2 and the mustang, my DD gets dino juice. I am they guy who thinks...why pay a premium for a syn. mix?...one or the other. The DD has a valve cover leak (3.5 DOHC northstar based v6 Oldsmobile intrigue, strong motor but horrible oil control) and with that and 120k looses about a qt a month, I drive it a LOT, I do not see the point in spending the extra to have it leak out/burn/get used.
