How many spark plugs in 2.3L 4cyl`

yes it is true. from 90-93 the 2.3L had two plug per cylinder.

if your next question is why then heres your answer:

-"In the DIS (distributorless ignition system) system, each coil fires two spark plugs at the same time. The plugs are paired so that the plug on the compression stroke fires, while the other plug is on its exhaust stroke. The next time the coil is fired, the plug that was on the exhaust strock will be on the compression stroke and the first one will be on exhaust. The spark in the exhaust cylinder is wasted, but little of the coil energy is lost." from chiltons manual.

Man I went to change the plugs in my 93 for the first time and poped the hood and looked and looked and looked and looked some more and thought WTF.

That was a loooooooong time ago though and I was 18 at the time NEW car at that time. I went and asked a friend and he tried to tell me that it was a inline 8 cyl I almost fell over laughing at that and told him to go back smoking his pot.

But I was confused at first myself when I seen it too.

I remember on my first 2.3 (a 91) i brought my car in for a tune up and the guys at the shop never knew about 8 plugs on my car. They said I was wrong til they looked, then they promptly charged me for a V8 tune up. They swore up and down that the motor in the car wasn't original. Now that I'm working at Firestone, I know better.

I know I felt screwed when I poped the hood of my 93' 2.3L and saw the 8 plugs :nonono: Crap they should have just went ahead and added another 4 cl to the dang thing

 I have yet to see that level of stupidity here!

Give it time :D .

I remember going from my '88 to a new '93 and I'd "swear" I could feel the extra 17hp and 3 lb-ft of tq  Looking back, all I was feeling was the shorter rear gear and shorter 1st gear of the T-5. :D

But it was good times and everytime I fill up my gas guzzling Lt-1, I wish for a second I still had a gas-friendly 2.3 Stang.
