The 83 IIRC is a Holley/Weber 5200 which is in turn a licensed copy of the Weber 32/36DGEV 2bbl carb.

With the regular list of performance mods like ported heads, headers, cam, milled head for more compression, etc. Im guessing your looking at 140-150hp.

I was hoping to take it well past that with the use of some forced induction . Just a POS beater project I had in mind.

find a carb turbo setup and set it under that 2bbl carb and rejet it for the turbo and you can make some serious power

Anlushac11, I'm getting ready to install my water/alky injection kit soon and was wondering about the rejetting of the carb. Can I buy the jets aftermarket or would I have to go to a carb shop? What size jets would you need to set the carb up for at least 15lbs of boost? Would the stock mechanical fuel pump keep up with a carbed turbo 2.3 running 15lbs of boost?

I think you would be better off with a good electric pump with a good regulator. Stock pumps have their limits.

On the carb turbo he doesnt have to worry about overcoming boost pressure and IIRC the 5200 cant run more than about 5lbs of fuel pressure. Hollies normally run about 7lbs of fuel pressure but remember this is a Weber designed carb and I think they average about 5lbs of fuel pressure.

You need to open up the carb and see what jets you have now. IIRC they will have a 3 digit number. The first two are the jet size the last number is either a 1,2,or 3. That indicates whether it runs to the lean, center or rich side. It was a way to fine tune the carb jets with increased emissions testing looming. You dont have to have the 3 digit jets as long as they fit but if you see the 3 digit jet number dont freak.

The article I had ran 1 to 2 sizes more on the primaries and 3 to 4 sizes more on the secondaries. You should run a air/fuel meter and see how its running.

I got all my carb parts from a local Volvo dealer but that was many years ago. You may have to call around import shops to see who still carries carb parts.

Also an idea I had on cooling a carb turbo was running a fuel cooling can. Looks like a cofee can with a fuel line coiled around inside. You add ice to the coffee can and it refrigerates the fuel. That should help cool, the intake charge more. But see how the water injection works first, you may not need more.

You may at one point have to port the intake and run a bigger carb like the Racer Walsh Weber 38/38 DGV. The experts say that with a draw through you dont need a bigger carb because the turbo will draw what it needs but people who have reduced the bottlenecks make more power so while that theory may hold some truth it doesnt hurt to make it easier for the air to get in.
