If i'm not mistaken the '01 Cobras came with an aluminum block, I was wondering how much HP can/have these blocks handled in the past. whats the limit on these, i'm talking about factory issued block. A friend of mine has one with 22K miles on the clock and is looking into doing a 5.1L stroker on it with forged internals for a future SC/turbo? install. Though will the stock block be able to handle say 700+rwhp?, i mean the car would be tuned/pullied(sc) to around 10psi for street driving, even then its not a daily driver, but if need/want be he'd like to turn up the boost to 15+psi without fear of the engine going south. so how much HP can his stock block handle? Thanks in advance

your friends block should be good up to 600hp. more if you feel like pushing it. the 01 block isn't as strong as the 96-99 blocks, so it won't be able to take as much. the problem is that although ford saved some weight when they redesigned it, the result was reduced section thickness and therefore less power capabilities. then again you might be able to achieve 900 hp before the block decides to let go. either way i say have fun.

Now i know that the debate on main girdles is that they really dont help much as far as strengthening, but rather rather "hold the parts togeather" after it blows up, are there any things that can be done to these modular motors to strengthen them?, thats the bad thing about factory 302 blocks, they cant handle any more than 450rwhp reliably without praying.

they are right about 600rwhp safely. those blocks have serious issues with cracking though. they tend to crack right in half when they go. if your friend wanted to keep using an aluminum block, i would recommend using the 96-98 cobra block. Ford technically didnt make those, they were made by an Italian company called Teksid, they also make the blocks for ferrari. the Teksid blocks are much stronger and have no cracking issues. they can handle upwards of 1200hp.
